Drummer/Composer Steve Fentriss has been playing music for more half of his 18 years. He began playing and composing jazz in middle school, and recorded his debut album ("Early Last Morning," available April 30th on the PKO Record Label) when he was 16.
Fentriss' recent accomplishments include becoming a member of the 2004 Clifford Brown/Stan Getz All Stars group, sponsored by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and the International Association of Jazz Educators.
"Early Last Morning" is composed of 8 Steve Fentriss originals, as well as 2 covers of Kenny Wheeler and Tom Harrell tunes.
The CD stars some of the Detroit area's finest musicians, Paul Keller, Mark Kieswetter, Vincent York, Paul Finkbeiner, and Chris Smith. The CD's liner notes were written by University of Michigan music professor and world renowned jazz scholar James Dapogny.
