Cake Parties

I just heard about these things yesterday. What the hell are they?

Some lady I know who's married said they're group sex parties. She invited a good friend of mine who's married to one.

She's got a four year old and a five year old for Christ's sake!

So what are they? Anyone know?

News to me, but this from ABC:

Feb. 20 — New York has a lot of trendy clubs, but one of the latest trends gives new meaning to the phrase "hot nightspot." Women in their 20s and 30s are lining up to get into "CAKE" parties, erotically charged happenings given by and for women. And the parties give a glimpse of where the sexual revolution has taken us.

Like Mama Gena's classes, CAKE encourages women to explore their own sexuality and put their needs ahead of their partners. "Women were taught you should, demurely and quietly and passive aggressively bring up your needs and wants in the bedroom," said Lauren Elmore, a card-carrying CAKE member.

"I always thought of myself as pretty sexually open and free. CAKE has helped me feel less freakish about that," she said.

CAKE co-founder Melinda Gallagher said she used to have problems with sexual satisfaction and her body image. "I felt insecure. I was more preoccupied with what I looked like in different poses than actually thinking about you know, my pleasure, or his pleasure or just you know, getting in the moment," she said.

Then she went to grad school, earned a masters degree in human sexuality and decided she wanted to help other women understand their sexuality.

She founded CAKE along with her boyfriend Matt Kramer and his sister Emily.

"Sexuality is yours to enjoy, to feel good about. And there are so many ways that you can do that, to think about your own pleasure. And that's what I think was really missing, was opportunities to explore what turns you on, and what pleases you," Emily Kramer said.

Thanks Brian.

But what do they do at them? I'm curious because the woman who approached my friend (and I really mean that -- she didn't approach me) looked the last person you think you'd find at one of these things.

It looks like they shag a lot at these parties.

Bluenoter.

There's a picture of some tattooed dude with a woman's legs around him.

There are also a lot of women with tattoos. I don't think I'd attend one.

Not that I'm a prude, but it ain't my cup o' tea.

Thanks for posting that. I am now a well-informed man.

RBS--I just added the part quoted above. If you click on the "past events" link, you'll see a blurb to the effect that the events vary, and you'll see descriptions and photos of some of the past events.

Also, it looks as if there are club parties and home parties. The home parties are called Cupcake Parties; I can't link you to the correct page, but you can follow the links. The Cupcake Parties sound more sedate.

RBS, check out these sites:

The CakeNYC site for the official site.

This site for some pictures from an actual CAKE party. It looks like a bunch of relaxed women get together and watch men strip. I guess it's progress in a way.

Tom--My link in #6 goes to the same CAKE site (but a different page). The club events vary; they don't all involve male strippers.

Yeah, but do any of them involve cake (aside from the beef variety)?

According to Pete and Clint, I'm supposed to bring the cake. And I thought I took the cake.

I still don't quite "get" this deal. Watching guys who look kinda gay, to me, strip doesn't seem like too much fun. Do people have sex at these parties?

Is this the result when a group of puritans forms a "pleasure club"? Damn, how boring. Did Rita say the cupcake parties were more sedate? More sedate than what? Of course, my view is solely based upon the tame photos they seemed so proud to put in their galleries. Maybe they actually remove clothing and stuff at some point.

What a fantastic scam this is. I wonder how much they're bilk-- er, I wonder how much the membership dues are?

Mary, since homosexual males are the only group that these events aren't geared for, they may as well get paid to strip at them.

Ron--

That the cupcake parties are more sedate was just my conclusion after reading a little about the club parties and the cupcake parties (home parties) on the website. I have no real knowledge of what any of the parties are like. I didn't even click on the links to party pictures.

Moné--

The club and its events are supposed to be geared toward women--and I might have missed something, but they seem to be geared toward straight women. Women are invited to join or attend; men may attend only as women's guests. I guess you figure that any event where straight women might feel like gettin' down is in effect geared toward any straight men present as well.

Just havin' a little fun, Rita.

It looks as if a busload of Cake lovers are headed your way for the weekend march.
