Is there a reason why the names are attached to the wrong individuals? And how does mjb not have an "edit" indication on his posts?

It is traditional and part of the humour.

How do you post the pictures in the box like that? I tried using the "upload" thing but it didn't work! How do you put two in one reply?!?

Traditional? Was there a "Separated at Birth" tradition prior to SPY magazine? I don't recall that they flip-flopped the names but maybe I came into this thing late....

You were trying to upload attachments. It works if you use the IMG function and link to a remote image.

Brian--

One sees an Edit button at the bottom of one's own posts only.

RBS--

HOW TO USE THE IMG FUNCTION to post pictures from the Internet

1. Find a picture from the Internet--typically, by doing a Google Image search.
2. Right-click on the image--the picture itself--on the Net. Don't use a Google thumbnail; go to the original site and use the picture there.
3. Click on Properties and copy the URL (address) from the Properties box.
4. Click the IMG icon in JC's Post Reply form.
5. Paste the URL into your message.
6. Click on the IMG icon again.
7. A line of code of the following pattern will appear in your message:

(Make sure that the http:// part appears once, not twice.)

8. If you want to, you can type in a line of code of that pattern manually instead of using the IMG icon button.

You can post a maximum of two images using the method above (plus one downloaded and attached image).

I first saw it done in "Private Eye" in the 60s ... it was usually accompanied by a mock letter to The Times sort of thing "Dear Sirs, Have your readers noiced the resemblance between x and y? Are they related, I think we should be told!"

Still doing it as "lookalikes" - http://www.private-eye.co.uk/content...4/section.look

The switch in names was probably to try to avoid being successfully sued. They also pretty much invented the "There is of course no truth to the rumour that Mr. X is a lazy, drunken, wife-beating buffoon" approach to libel.

But I've always had to edit to get a second IMG in my posts. The price is having the pure beauty of the two images compromised by the little "edited" sig at the bottom. I resent it that Pete's and mjb's images don't have this marring effect! *sniff*

I thought you were referring the Edit button at the bottom right of one's own posts, but you seem to be referring to the "Edited by Brian O. at x p.m." line in a post itself. Anyway, you don't have to edit to get two images into the same post; in fact, I can't even picture the process you're using.

Huh. When I copy and paste the url for an image here, I've always thought I had to post and then return with a second image and edit the post to add that one. If I paste the url and then leave the page to search for another, when I return the post is blank. I presume I'm performing an unnecessary step somewhere in there. Anyway, thanks.

Sounds like Brian needs to go to his User CP page and change the default setting under Edit Options/Miscellaneous Options/Message Editor Interface to Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing.

Are you in some version of Windows? Keep a JC window and a window that you use to visit picture-gathering sites open at the same time. (You can minimize one of the windows, but don't close it.) Or copy the URL of your first picture into Notepad, just to keep it handy until you find a second picture. (You don't have to save anything; just keep the Notepad containing the URL minimized, rather than closed, when you're not using it.) Do you ever use Notepad? I use it all the time. There must be equivalents in other OSes.
