Who Aren't I?

Name the people least likely to every type the following phrases.

1 Jazz is alive and well.
2 Bush is brilliant.
3 The great Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.
4 The only exciting jazz today is played by musicians under 50.
5 I'd rather hear a clam by Miles than a perfectly played note by Wynton.
6 Sonny Rollins is more creative than Joe Maneri.
7 The US should institute a progressive VAT but stop taxing land.
8 I'd rather listen to John Butcher than Fred Anderson any day of the week.
9 The Mets suck.

Republicans are more compassionate than most people here would like to believe, indeed it is no wonder a majority of them have the finest taste in jazz among any members of this BBS.

Lincoln was the first Republican president and the party itself was only a couple of years old at the time. Furthermore, it's platform was much more closely tied to today's Democratic party: Lincoln fought slavery although it was essentially a states' rights issue, he was for a strong central government, and he took progressive positions on black and women's suffrage. Far-right Republicans of today trash Lincoln because he instituted the first widespread taxation of personal income in the US.

Sometime after the turn of the century, a populist movement surged and the Republican and Democratic parties essentially switched platforms. Republicans became more conservative and Democrats more liberal. That wasn't how it used to be. In antebellum times, Democrats were ruled by the wealthy southern planter class.

So whomever would say that today's Republicans have any legitimate claim to Lincoln's legacy are terribly misinformed.

Of course I recognized myself! But what fun is it saying "#9 is me?!?"

"I love liberals. I love being a liberal. I want to have lunch with Hillary Clinton and am going to move back to dumbfuck Florida and cut my salary in half.

Namaste."
