I used to toggle back and forth between lo-fi and hi-fi at home and work, respectively, but I've gradually settled in with the lo-fi look. Enough so that I basically don't even think about the visual design anymore.

lo-fi by a long shot. All the other skins have way too much extraneous and visually distracting graphics and colors for me. I'm here for the text and user images, and want that info delivered as efficiently, focused, and compactly as possible.

That word "skin" makes mine crawl. Can't we call it something else?

Sorry, too late, it's an "industry" standard now.

I've also toggled back and forth between the various options, but find the lo-fi to be the least distracting, though I'm not crazy about the button design. Each skin has certain aspects of appeal, but none of them are the perfect aesthetic solution to my eyes.

Also, the navigational features of each design have some real differences, especially with respect to the location of certain items.

Hey Tip, would you feel better if we referred to it as "Electronic Epidermis"?

I much prefer lo-fi -- particularly with the black headers. My only complaint would be that some of the buttons are so small as to be unreadable to many of us with aging eyes.

All the other formats (better word than "skins?" -- I think so...) are too bright and make my head hurt. But then I always prefer darker, calmer, stark colors.

I think there should be a text-only, green text on black background, mainframe terminal-looking interace where all the commands are entered with the keyboard (no mouse) using a set of mnemonics and keywords that all JC users would have to learn. Oh, and it should all be written in COBOL/CICS with a VSAM storage.

By my calculations, OZ's suggestion would increase efficiency by 27,36%. However, there are also 82,65% odds of a 99.99% drop in board usage. It's up to Lois to weigh her options.

Damn, this poll is goin' through the roof! We now have 480 posters on JC, and this thread has received a grand total of 13 votes, refelecting a potential of 0.027083333333% respondents.

Since she didn't bother to comment, I guess Tippy didn't exactly care for my "Electronic Epidermis" suggestion whilst cringing at the word "skins". Cest la vie.

By the way, since I like to "get it right", is it Tippy or Tipi (as in Tipitina)?

Hey, Moné, why do you suppose the designers of vBulletin decided that this skin should be the "default"?

On another design issue which has been discussed on several occasions, what's up with the non-descript blue/black design in the upper left on the default board? It was my understanding that this questionable design was going to be improved upon, redesigned, or made something positive. So far it hasn't. Why?

To be brutally honest, it's ugly and unimaginative.

Ron, they didn't. The default colors that vBulletin comes with are absolutely atrocious. Our crappy lo-res blue is beautiful in comparison.

As for improving it, we haven't gotten around to it because we were assuming the users of said skin preferred simplicity to good looks (otherwise, they'd be using one of our other cool skins).

I'll have a look and see if I can't come up with a better logo. Because I care for you guys who are using the crappy lo-res blue skin. :-)

Maybe I'll come up with an eggplant and teal skin in honor of my beloved Ducks...
