Selling Saxophones

As you can see from my other thread, I need cash to buy a new piano (or somehow fix the one I have, if that's possible).

This hurts, too.

I have a Selmer Mark VI alto sax that I bought, new in 1966. Its serial number is M132709. It has the original lacquer on it, a TrayPak case with a Bb clarinet (Selmer Signet Special Ser #32905) in it, and two mouthpieces. The mouthpieces are a Meyer, tip opening 5, medium chamber, medium facing length and an L3 Brilhart, 237912. It is the best alto that I've ever played.

Does anyone have any idea what it's worth? How can I find out? What would be the best way to sell it so that I can get the most money for it?

I also have a 10M C. G. Conn tenor sax, serial number T 277758 L. I think it must be worth something, again, I have no idea what and don't know how to sell it. It also has two mouthpieces, a Meyer like the alto's and a steel Berg Larsen 85 3 SMS. Suggestions?

There's also a C. G. Conn baritone sax 1119954 B M251460 L. It does not have a low A key. I've got two mouthpieces for that, too. Again, any ideas?

This isn't an ad because I really don't WANT to sell these, but I don't know how to get enough money to get a new piano any other way.

Rather, this is a request for suggestions on how much these might be worth and how to sell them.

Thanks.

Harvey

I personally couldn't say what your horns are worth I have been searching the web lately for a horn for myself. As a result I have found a couple of sites that might help. The Brass & Woodwind site is all in Canadian dollars so you would have to convert (exchange is roughly C$1.37 to each US dollar these days).

Hope you find the cash another way, good luck.

A good Mk. VI ought to be worth between $4000 and $5000, depending on condition. I'm not sure about the Conn, though.

That conn 10m's... especialy the naked ladies fetch around 1,800 give or take depending on the shape. I have seen VI alto's in unbelievable condition list at 5 g's but since it's becoming more of a buyers market, 3 to 4 is more the realistic range for a solid sale. It is hard to buy things blind these days.

I would like to look at the alto... where you at? Got a link to some pics?

The Bari, I have no clue what that might be. Saxgourmet is the place to at least get more info.

Dick,

The tenor is a Lady Face, not a Naked Lady and it appears that the body was relacquered, but not the keys or rods. The relacquer job was a very good one. It has rolled tone holes. This is the horn that I'd like to sell right now and, if I can afford it, keep the Mark VI and the Conn Bari for the moment, if possible.

I live in Connecticut, about 1-1/2 miles from the Massachusetts border, between Hartford and Springfield, Mass. If you're ever in this area, I'd be happy to have you take a look at the horns.

I've decided: I'll sell the tenor and bari saxes. I'm going to hold the alto for the moment, though that'll probably go after I get used to being without the others.

I don't have a digital camera so I can't post pictures. Besides, there's no substitute for seeing/playing the horns.

If you're interested, please contact me. A PM is ok.
