Peggy Stern is the musical director
The Wall Street Jazz Festival will premiere on July 10, 2004 in Uptown Kingston and will present the work of outstanding women jazz composers and bandleaders of the Hudson Valley.
The festival will be held after the City of Kingston's highly successful Saturday Farmerıs Market, on North Front and Wall Streets. The music will begin at 3 PM, outdoors weather permitting, indoors at the Backstage in case of rain.
The artists include Jay Clayton, Marilyn Crispell, Erica Lindsay, Francesca Tanksley, Sumi Tonooka, Teri Roiger, Peggy Stern, Nina Sheldon, Betty MacDonald, Laurel Masse, and several others. All have international reputations as jazz innovators, and call the Hudson Valley their home.
Over the years, many jazz festivals have brought to the public attention musicians such as Charlie Parker, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson. Few festivals have featured the extraordinary contributions of women jazz composers and bandleaders. The Hudson Valley boasts many talented and internationally recognized women jazz artists. Our desire is to bring to the publicıs ear, these women and their music.
Sidemen will include: Mike deMicco, Jack Wilkins, Steve LaSpina, Rich Syracuse, Rufus Reid, Joe fonda, Pat McKearn, Tani Tabbal, Jeff Siegal, Sylvia Cuenca, to name a few.
The Festival is free, bring a chair if you like. Refreshments, t-shirts, hats, CDıs, and other goodies will be available at tables and booths set up along Front Street.
The music will be continuous from 3 PM to 10 PM. The festivities will conclude with a dance/party hosted by the Backstage, and featuring the band Estrella Samba & Salsa.
