I think I'm losing it in my old age.
I finally just got my multi-channel set up completed about 2 months ago when I fianally got a subwoofer. I should have been done then, right? Well, after listening to the set-up for 2 months, I started tinkering again.
I must be losing it.
First, I hated the way the Denon 3803 worked (a rotary knob to switch source inputs?). I was kicking myself for not just paying the extra $$ for the Rotel that I wanted. So I sold the Denon and bought a used Rotel RSX-1055 over at AudiogoN. It's been great so far. The price difference was about $150.
Now, after listening to the system for a while with the sub, I found that, for movies at least, the sound is better if I set the front speakers all to "Small". So now I have these big Cambridge Soundworks Tower II speakers and I'm basically not using the woofers. I started thinking about downsizing to a speaker that would fit better in my theater set-up but still be very musical for my stereo listening.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I went back to a B&W dealer to (once again) drool all over their speakers. And sat down to listen to a pair of "satellite" speakers, the Nautilus 805's. Man, are these some sweet speakers! Unfortunately, even on AudiogoN, they are too steep. I love the 600 series and I would probably get a pair of 603 S3's but they are not magnetically shielded and one speaker has to close to my Sony TV. The N805's are shielded.
I'm stuck. I should just quit while I'm ahead and enjoy my set up. After all, the Cambridge Soundworks Tower IIs sound great.
I bet I could sell a few Mosaic boxes on ebay to raise some cash.
Anyone else suffer from this disease of mine?
Later,
Kevin
