Gainfully Employed--For the time being

After a long bout of unemployment & underemployment, I am working full time again, as of today. I got a consulting position at a place I've worked before. It's "legacy system" mainframe analysis & programming. The justification to hire me came about due to a recently approved merger that will create a bunch of extra work for this department. I should be there at least through the end of this year, maybe longer, though nothing is ever guaranteed.

Since January of 2002 I've collected 65 weeks of unemployment. I had a part-time (3-day) programming contract for 7 months, and most recently have been doing freelance, part-time proofreading for an ad agency.

It's nice to be back at a familiar place, able to look forward to a regular paycheck.

Glad for you, Pete!

THAT'S what makes the world a better place. Just the idea that you could be hungry made me sick.

Good goin' Pete. Now that you're employed, you may enjoy visiting this silly site. It's all about being unemployed. Don't miss the "Cook-ay Slots," a major time-waster.

That's the spirit.

I'm very glad you're gainfully employed. I hope you are until you no longer wish to be (gainfully employed, that is).

Congratulations Pete and welcome back to IT. Of course on any given day I ask myself "Why do I do this to myself?"

That's the funniest line I've read all month.

Congratulations, Pete! May your new job last as long as you wish to hold it.

Yes, Bush and Cheney could use a donation to their respective private offices in 7 months.

Glad to hear it's solid Pete. (I had the honors of hearing it first when Pete and I were out for lunch and had Shanghai soup dumplings and wonderful rice patties that looked like scallops).

Yes, made it home OK although my electric razor somehow turned on while going through security. I was instantly pegged as a potential threat and overraction replaced sanity for a few moments. Thanks for the good times at Tonic and lunch the next day. The BBQ/jazz fest at Madison Sq. Park was nice too but couldn't top the hari krishna fest at Wash Sq. Pk.

I have learned on this trip that Pete, the spiritual master is receiving benediction from the ocean of mercy. Just as a cloud pours water on a forest fire to extinguish it, so the spiritual master delivers the materially afflicted world by extinguishing the blazing fire of material existence. I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of such a spiritual master, who is an ocean of auspicious qualities.
