Blue Mitchell and Sam Jones

Yesterday I have got BM's "Blue Soul".I have heard three times in total and I was deeply attracted in Sam Jones' bass, I can remember in "Portrait of Cannonball",they coorprated well too.I think Jones and Mitchell play so perfect. Show me more suggestions to get their other items?

The only one of Mitchell's albums I have is Blue's Moods which indeed has Sam Jones on it. It's very good, though with Mitchell as sole horn his pet licks tend to crop up often over the distance. Still, it's a very likeable album.

There is an album that was reissued by 32 Jazz under Sam Jones' name called "Something In Common" that has Blue Mitchell, Slide Hampton, Cedar Walton, Bob Berg, Billy Higgins, and Louis Hayes. Highly recommended.

Also worth checking out are two strong Sam Jones albums:
"The Chant"

"Down Home"

Blue Note is RVG'ing Mitchell's "The Thing to Do," out next week. It's great.

Blue Mitchell's Out of the Blue from the early 1960s is good. It features some really strong Benny Golson. I agree. re Sam Jones's Something In Common. Check out the hip playing of a very young Bob Berg.
