Until Alex's thread is deleted, no one else post in it

Since Mone's away for the week, we can't be sure how long the thread will exist. All the same, it is disconcerting to go to the Alley and see the same offensive statement every time. If nobody else posts in it, it will drop down the list and, maybe, disappear from view.

Just a thought.

You are, of course, correct. But some people can't resist being baited. Let's see what happens...

THANK YOU!! I wanted to say this too but I didn't want to contribute another post to that thread. I've already sent a PM to Lois, this is absolutely ridiculous.

Good point Crawjo, however, I'm sure Ron has the right of reply.

You guys are a real think tank.

I know, we can post our responses here...

I think it is absurd for Alex to accuse others of engaging in acts of self-righteousness and spurious outrage. I mean the easy chair fits mr. self-loathing expat. What good is a utopia where everybody's foul-mouthed and Pissed Off? I mean that's already been achieved. The work is done. Pull the lever and Recline, bro.

A suggestion that someone contact Lois has been deleted. Moné is on the case.

And I completely missed Stuckinagroove's #3, in which he reported that he'd PMed Lois long ago.

I'm pretty sure that Ron posted today on the Father's Day thread. I think he's seen the offensive thread and has declined to respond.

Yes, Crawjo, looking at the times involved, I'd imagine that he's seen the thread (though not the latest posts in it). I deleted the relevant sentence from my previous post. (Later: And I've now changed the whole post.)

Seriously, does any of this have anything to do with the fact that it's Father's Day? Not interested in getting inside Alex's (or anyone else's) head, but it just occurred to me...just a thought.

Cem, I don't think we could know without getting into his head. However, it was his mother who passed away recently (some number of months ago).

If you can feel empathy and compassion toward Alex, instead of anger, knock yourself out, I say. For whatever reason(s), he doesn't seem to be a happy camper.

Hi, folks! Bye, Alex.

Very little time to talk. Wedding went great. I'm exhausted. Off to Hawaii.

More when I get back. Bye!

Thank God for the dedication of Mone (I was going to ban him Saturday morning for a week so he wouldn't be checking in on his honeymoon), but for some reason - somebody up there is watching out for JC and specifically Speakeasy. Some of you know, how and why I started JC after my daughter died, and so I believe everything I've tried to do here and on the other side of JC for the musicians and organizations that are JC's clients are from Ceora's (my daughter) blessings. She would be 11 in exactly a week.

I'm checking in here for the first time since Saturday morning and I had no idea until I read a PM from Stuckinthegroove. I checked email this afternoon and nobody emailed me (I haven't checked tonight yet (came here first). I don't know when Alex started this thread, it doesn't matter.

Ladies and gents - I'm deleting all the "ban this person and that person who would you ban" threads that are floating around in here, and let's go back to the Alley being a place just hang for non jazz dialogue.

Peace and Blessings
Lois

Speaking as a pseudo-lurker, I observed Alex with some degree of interest. He had some vaguely interesting opinions, although his tone was overly confrontational, and his approach anti-intellectual to say the least.

Incidentally, as someone else with what might be called a 'far-left' perspective, I can add that Alex seemed rather confused about his beliefs, displaying xenophobic and crypto-Zionist attitudes which are surely antithetical to a socialist position.

Don't you think that the kibbutzim were rather exemplary models of socialism in vivo back in the day? (Forgive my redundant expression, o Pedantic Wretch, and forgive the vacillation in tone. Many are the pitfalls to be aware of when a Pedantic Wretch is in the house.)

Monte--

"Panic wedgies"? Explain, please.

Panic wedgies.

I mean anybody on this board had a chance of being persuaded by our youth communist that Elder Thorne was a child molester to the same degree that we believe that the Fucking Saint really puts rodents in his ass. And we would be exactly as like to care.

So I am saying the panic to preserve Thorne's unimpeachable honor was wedgie-inducing. We all know Alex was wrong. Let's congratulate ourselves by pulling our shorts over our heads in a flurry to condemn him.

What I am saying is: relax. We can thank Mone for doing the *incredible* and checking his email during his honeymoon (Hi Mone), but even if he didn't, and we had to endure the continued existence of a heinous thread title like "Ron Thorne is a child molester" for up to two weeks...big ass hairy deal.

No one thinks for a second that Ron is a molester. Gimme a break. Now Chris A....

I'M KIDDING.

Why did no one email me at lois@jazzcorner.com?

I got notification of stuckinagroove's private message, I got Moné's email with an update, but no one emailed me.... this address also goes to my cell - so I know of any technical issues that are going on with the site and any urgent message....

Please use this address... best Lois

Monte - YOU ARE SO RIGHT....

BTW, I can see Moné in HI already... Mel will be windsurfing or something and Moné will be on his wireless checking in... or maybe Moné will be windsurfing with his wireless to see if how far the network will reach!

One mo' thing - I can ban, I can delete, I can move, I can shred - but (and this is a secret that you can't tell anyone) - I can't ride a bike

Lois--

Not everyone will see that post of yours. So in case someone does PM you in the future, why don't you choose the User CP option of being automatically notified by e-mail that you've received a PM?

Rita read the "I got notification" but I don't always have access to the internet. I always have access to email!!!

I see.

BTW, Rita thank you as always for your rational and civil explaination of the "lines I walk" in keeping Speakeasy going...

Thank you, Lois!

The concept of the kibbutz may be a good example of collectivist social organisation, but this is besides the point. Zionism is the belief in a state being established in the name of a religion, which is an abhorrent prospect for any secularist. In my opinion, Judaism is in the same family of loathsome, primitive, hate-peddling creeds as Christianity and Islam. Sharon's right-wing militarist regime can use religion as an excuse for pursuing imperialist ambitions in the surrounding areas, backed by the fundamentalist Christian-Zionist zealots in the Bush administration.

That's certainly true, but the real point is that Alex was being a pain in the ass for no other reason than to be a pain in the ass--and a boring pain in the ass, at that. Wittily outrageous or otherwise entertaining pains in the ass can last years, but I absolutely understand the "cut your losses" approach to boring pains in the ass who cross the line to troll-hood. We've all seen bulletin boards or newsgroups really ruined by people who just post to be the aggressive, bratty center of attention. To hell with that. Of course if they were simply ignored, the problem would go away, but people are frail and excitable, so a determined moderator who will resolutely nuke trolls is indispensable for message-board homeland security. Consider it "the war on trollism."
