...and then there's the fabulous 1-door Iseta, a car only a troll could fit into.
And, yes, it's a BMW!!

Hey Finch, did you see that show over the weekend about the Avanti?
They're getting ready to release a brand new edition. It actually looks semi-cool if you get really drunk first.

Those new Avantis do look kinda cool. The Avanti was a beautiful car, and one of the last designs produced by the great Ray Loewy.
On the other hand, this was one butt-ugly vehicle:

The very first new car Patti and I owned was a 1967 Saab 96 V4. Believe it or not, the color was ... Sand.
This is the look and color of our old favorite from the rear. What an amazing automobile!
There was a window decal included which said Made in Trollhatten by Trolls.

Yeah Al, that convertible does look kinda neat.
It's going to have the LS1 from the Corvette in it. So it shouldn't exactly be sluggish!

Not to forget the 1970 Bond Bug 700ES. They actually managed to make 2,268 of these during 4 years before production ceased.

I should probably keep quiet about this:
When I was 18, I was driving an Isetta like this. It first belonged to my cousin, then my brother and finally me. Three trolls - all more than 6 feet tall. And the Isetta was even green!

As grandpa used to say, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Go to bubbledrome.org to see some really strange wheels.

Is it possible that this car has starred in a Marcel Carné film?

Of course the greatest thing about the Isetta (or was it Iseta? Sources seem to disagree) was the really handy front door. Just push that pesky steering column out of the way and you were ready to walk...

How about that car that you could buy from Sears. What was the name of that thing?

I dunno, but here's the anti-troll: the 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine.
I saw one of these a while back at our storage unit; the owner was hauling some furniture and had just stuck a loveseat into the back seat, with plenty of room to spare. You could probably fit an Iseta into the back seat of this...

Why the amazing and beautiful Sears Allstate (what else?) of course...
Jimmy's posting of the Nash ad above reminded me that members of my family worked there. Another long-dead auto company that my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather worked for was Hudson, with my grandfather spending 23 years there up to the day they closed. So everytime I'm lucky enough to see one of these rare beauties I think of ol' grandpa.

As soon as I saw that Sears Allstate photo Al posted, I thought "damn, that sure looks like a Kaiser/Frazer car to me". That's because it was, I just learned.
A high school buddy of mine, Jim Lowman, owned a red Isetta, which was definitely an eye-catcher in 1959-60 Anchorage. We used to bomb all over town in that thing, and especially loved pulling into a drive in or other public place where we could exit through the front almost immediately. The looks on people's faces who had never seen this car before were priceless.

you get the picture.
