Valerie was there, we had a mini hang....
I think Saturday was one of the best days of music I've seen in a long time.
The whole program had a great flow and was just great.
Hugh Masekela was the best I've seen him, Yerba Buena were a great innovative mix, and SAVION GLOVER!!!! that had to be the greatest physical display i've ever seen. He was like Giovanni Hidalgo, but he played with his feet. The big difference is that Gio keeps time sometimes, and Savion soloed his butt off for the whole set.
Yes, Wynton was truly fantastic. The thing is, I think his set would have quieted some of his detractors on this site. He took the music through all kinds of changes, they went 'out', played pretty and did all kinds of stuff NOT based in Duke Ellington.
Sunday had it's high points Gerald Wilson among them. Herbie, Wayne, Dave, and Brian were pretty much off the scale with their stuff too...
