Oooh Wise Ones, Help This Master Procrastinator...
I'm really slippin'...I'm d.f.'ing like you wouldn't believe it! I'm ultra tired & sleepy all the time, even though I'm not working as of 2 days ago. All I wanna do is kick back & do as little as possible. I have a million things I *have to do* !!
I'm moving on the 7th or 8th & flying out on the 9th. eeeek! I gotta do all this! I hate me! I just wanna split...
So, what do you folks do, when stuck in a state of inertia?

Honestly? I take a shower...even if its the second or third time that day. I find that I can start to think while I'm in the shower, and often thinking gets me motivated to do something.

I usually pour myself a brandy and sit back and reflect upon the day. After a few sips it finally becomes clear to me why I was procrastinating in the first place. The answer is, because I can!............................

[Take a shower...wha-?]
My advice?
Suck it up and do it.
Get it done.
There is no other way.

I think, I found some new ways...
-shower (check)
-brandy...well, nice bourbon (check)
-puffin' on a fat Drum ciggy
-off to hear Dave Douglas/Dylan van der Schyff's Iron Giant Project, then off to hear Michael Moore/Mark Helias/ Michael Vatcher

Sounds like a plan, CEM.
Maybe there is one thing missing but we have to be a bit careful if we can mention it under the new rules.....

So Cem, where are you moving? Are you moving to London? Isn't that like the most expensive place on Earth. Outrageous! Good luck, whereever you go.

Hey man, I hear ya. I'm the worst. I spent a whole month back in Virginia, and in that whole time I didn't get the most basic things done - I mean stuff like, you know, change the burned lightbulb in the bathroom - just because I'd rather kick back and do nothing. There are some weekends when I don't shower or change until nighttime - and only if I have something to do or I'm just starving. If I didn't, I'd spend all day in my sleeping shorts watching bad movies or just doing nothing. Then I feel bad afterwards because I just wasted all that time.
You talk about procrastination - dude, I'm chronic.

cem, simple solution: keep procrastinating enough so you end up not going! Easy! And much better for the JC community.

Your answer to starvation is a shower and/or a change of clothes?

cem,
Procrastination just means that you don't have to work up a sweat.
I never procrastinate about:
Messing around with Donna
Playing with my grandkids
Eating a plate of really good carnitas
Firing up a stogie
Listening to Zoot Sims
Going to Mexico
Deadheading my roses
Taking a nap.
I always procrastinate about:
Writing my company newsletter
Having lunch with pain-in-the-ass acquaintances or in-laws
Polishing my shoes
Any form of physical exercise
Driving more than 100 miles
Getting a colonoscopy.

I'm off to Turkey for an indefinite period. I'll be catching up with my people -especially my dad- see whether I can live & work there & I'll do my military service, which I must do before my 38th year is over, to keep my citizenship. I need to keep my citizenship for practical reason, mainly, as I fear they may not let me into the country in the future, even as a Canadian (anything could happen, they fuck with the rules regularly). Currently, the military service for foreign workers is 1 month or 6 months. If I can come up with $8,300CAD (usurers)!!!, I can do it for one month, which'll be training only. If i do the 6 month stint, there's a danger of seeing action, I suppose. I'm not a fighter, just a mediocre lover...

Looking forward to that, amigo! This town needs a bit of terrorizing, to wake up... btw, I hope you meant "Al & I"...I don't know how many shrugs I can handle in one go, I'm kinda fragile right now...

You know how people make deals to get married, in case they stay single when they're old? You & I could agree to be roommates. We'd get along famously. I think, we'd need a maid, though.

I may be a lazy mofo, but I'm a clean lazy mofo. I ain't going out to grab a bite unless I'm cleaned up. You may wonder why I don't just eat at home. I was too lazy to go to the supermarket to pick up stuff to make food.

Hmm.
I must say I haven't ever come across the expression, or your usage of it. I still can't believe I'm the only one who didn't know! Not that I'm worldly, or anything, but I thought I knew every derivation and use of the "f" word known to man.

Wow, Cem. That's serious. So this whole stint is so you can keep your citizenship to facilitate visiting your family in the future? Would you go back to Vancouver later? Anyway, good luck with everything! When I moved from SF to NYC six years ago I procrastinated with weed and beer. You know, fill one UPS box, two beers and three tokes, next box, etc. Spent a lot of time stoned on the hardwood floor. I made the Supershuttle wait for like 20 minutes while I finished throwing stuff in the giant suitcase.

Partially that & also, so that I can own property there. Plus, there's a tiny guy inside my head laying the guilt trip: "It's a right of passage, all your friends have done it, it's your duty (etc.)..." Politically, I'm totally opposed to it on so many levels, but what can I do? I gotta play their stupid fucking game...

I, honestly, don't know! Even though, a friend of mine is opening a Turkish restaurant here & I could fulfill my dream by partnering with him & be presenting music in my own space, I may not be coming back. I'm a little bitter about this place, as I am about Turkey, for different reasons. Life of the immigrant, I tell you...not fun... It is quite possible that I'll recognize the value of Vancouver once I live in Istanbul or elsewhere. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, as they say. Most importantly, as we speak, I'm totally open to possibilities.

It's funny my dad has never been outside the United States (me either except for with him to Vancouver and some town across Del Rio, Texas in Mexico--oh wait, and Niagara Falls, Canada) but he said the one place he wants to see before he bites the dust is the Hagia Sofia. So is it worth it? What's the coolest like tourist site you've ever been to in the world (everyone)? I don't think I could choose one too easily, but we went camping for a couple summers in the California Redwoods, near Crescent City, when I was a kid and that was my favorite. All red rock parks and Four Corners area were always cool too--oh yeah, and Lake Powell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, but I can't think of anything manmade at the moment.

Yes, Tippy, Hagia Sophia is quite grand & lotsa intricate detail is still visible. The melding of two cultures/religions is evident & pretty amazing. I'm not a believer, but I visited Mary's house, her supposed birth place in Selchuk, with a Catholic East-Indian/British woman & her boyfriend, both of whom I'd met while travelling. While we were there, by complete fluke, she met a Catholic East-Indian priest visiting from the Vatican, I believe. Observing her being touched by all this was quite something, but the place had a strong vibe to it anyway.
I haven't travelled much, so another stand out for me was long beach on the West coast of Vancouver Island, near Vancouver. Breath-taking beauty of the vastness of the beach, a popular surfer destination, & the nature surrounding it, makes the trip worthwhile.

Al, you need a day & a half for that, at least. *Relatively* near Vancouver. One 1.5 to 2 hour ferry ride plus about a 3 hour drive. Highly recommended, though.
