Miles reissues...

Is the last of the Columbia boxes going to be issued in that new casing like the reissues, or will they issue it first with the metal spine? Or both?

What do you mean by last box? I think there are two more (at least) in the works: the Seven Steps to Heaven box and the Cellar Door material. I'm not sure what the packaging will be like, but given that the earlier boxes are being reissued in more inexpensive packaging, it might mean they're going in that direction.

I hope not. I like that they offer you both alternatives, but I don't like the long boxes, and I think the metal spines are a nice way to package it. At least then it can fit on my shelf nicely.

As I understand it, the Seven Steps to Heaven box is going to be released later this year, but the Cellar Door material is probably not coming out until 2005.

My mistake, I meant to say last two. I would also love for them to be metal spined for the reasons of shelving. Plus i just don't care for the reissue packaging. I know that the Seven Steps... will be coming out in the Fall (if you are really anxious, theirs a promo copy of this set on ebay right now).

Fuckin' Columbia, they've got so much of my money from Miles reissues...I must own four different versions of "Kind Of Blue" by now...not to mention "In A Silent Way." Bastards!

No way the Cellar Door box will be the last. Sony will keep finding ways to reissue Miles recordings with bonus tracks, new packaging, and remastering for us fanatics because they know we can't help ourselves. How about a 4cd "Complete Agharta/Pangea Sessions" remastered with the full concerts or "The Complete 1980's Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis". They'll probably end up starting a bootleg series similar to the Dylan one for previously unreleased live stuff too.
