Happy 8th Birthday, Jazz Corner!

I offer a salute to Lois Gilbert and all of those who have toiled and sacrificied to create, nurture and sustain Jazz Corner.

I began posting here when Jazz Central Station was still vibrant, then pitched my tent here permanently, shorty before the demise of JCS, encouraging others to give JC a try. If I'm not mistaken, the only other poster who was here on a regular basis prior to me is Don Horvath (Canuck Don), a dear friend.

Happy Birthday, Jazz Corner!

I realize that I launched this thread late in the day ... 11pm EST, but I'm shocked that no one has chimed in thus far, though a dozen or more have viewed the thread.

We can't afford to take this forum for granted, folks. I'm not preachin', just tellin' it like it is.

Yes, I also came in the great migration. I began posting at JCS shortly after it stopped accepting posts (now THAT was a frustrating experience!), and followed the gang over here. Spring of '99, maybe?

Happy Birthday, and congratulations, Lois! And thanks to the musicians whose web sites make this possible.

Lois and Mone:
Nicely done. I have unlimited regard for your work here, as I am clueless as to the realities of what is actually involved. It looks to this luddite and aversive-to-administrative-duties guy, staggering.Mad props to all posters, who have coalesced into some sort of cyber-stew, and crack me up and make me cringe and reach for my mouse.
May JC flourish,
Jesse

Yahoo, Jazz Corner! Right on, Ron. I started posting here in July 1999. Congratulations and thanks very much to you, Lois, and to mone too! Thanks to both for all the hard work.

Happy anniversary,

I lurked around here for quite some time before getting the guts to jump in. I have learned immeasurably and have had a lot of laughs. Now if I could only figure out who to bill for all the time I spend here..

Thanks to Lois et al for all they do to provide this excellent forum.

Isn't it just like Moné to log in under Ron's name to start a self congratulatory thread like this?

Happy Birthday, Jazz Corner!

I started here about 4-5 years ago, I think, right around the time my mother died. I was looking up Avishai Cohen and soon stumbled into the Speakeasy. This is the first and only online "community" I've ever been a part of, and it's amazing how strong some of the relationships are. I think I've only met one poster in person (walto) to date, but I feel like I've known many of you for a long, long time.

Thank you to Lois for creating the Corner and to everyone who populates it.

I remember my introduction to Jazz Corner very well. I stumbled into the old JC after doing a search on Steve Lacy. One of the hits I got was a thread where DEEP, Bob Brookmeyer, and Paul B. were (ahem) discussing Steve Lacy.
Could've been sometime in 2000, iirc.

You'd think reading those nasty DEEP posts would've turned me off, but (asshole that I am) instead became a regular lurker.

Wow, 8 years! I came in with the Great Migration as well, though like most folks I lurked around here before that. Truth be told, prior to the GM, JC was, well, quiet. At the time, there were (I think) six places to go for jazz discussion: JCS, JOL, JC, RMB newsgroup, old AAJ with a really crappy interface, and the Refugees yahoo group (I'm not sure when the BNBB started). JC was probably the least active.

At one point during those tumultuous times, Lois deleted a post of mine (in which I announced that JCS was back up after one of its many outages prior to its demise). Grudgy mfer that I am, I decided I'd never post here again.

I think I staggered in about the time of the demise of JCS and JOL.

Lois, you have done a great service to all us jazz fans with a place to hang, familiarize ourselves with many musicians and just have a great time.

Long may you wave.

now here I are four years later and I'm selling CDs on JC!! ..as well as having made a bunch of real good friends in the process ..

Congrats Lois ..your hard work ( and Mone's as well ) and effort to keep this place rolling are greatly appreciated by all !!

Lois and her crew did a wonderfull job in not only setting up this site but keeping it running all these years. The people who were here at the begining and stayed saw many changes occur througout the years. We saw some friends leave and never come back for whatever reasons and new ones join the fold.Rules were added and altered many times. We shared each others joys and also sorrows. No need to tell you all that this ship not allways floated on stilled waters.Throughout the years we have seen some not so nice happenings around here. but we still kept it afloat thanks to Lady Lois and company .What problems arose most of the times were settled with reasoning and common sense by us and a lot of patience from Lady Lois. When the other jazz forum ended and the people started migrating here I was a bit leary about it but that soon ended because I seen what a kind, careing bunch 99.999 per-cent were.I met online some beautiful people that I quickly took a liking to and I think liked me back a little bit.
We have our regular Lady posters that I just adore.Even though I don't get into too much discussion with them I still enjoy and respect their views on topics. So I toast Lady Lois and crew and a toast to all the members here who stayed on all these years. Now I'm going back to the water .I got about an hour and a half of light left to fly fish. (Ron I caught 3 nice small mouth bass this morning ,going back to try and catch their relatives. ).
Happy Anniversary Jazz Corner.

Wow where do I begin... to thank YOU. I had almost forgotten it was 8 years ago then we started. I guess I'm getting old. Then I saw this thread and you all blow me away!

Thank you for remembering. I remember the day JC went up with 3 clients including Ronnie Cuber who is still on JC. And I checked the stats that first day and we had a 100 hits. And then I realize they were all me hitting on the site. Do any of you remember our first design with the little figures beboppin on the corner?

I'm so proud and blessed that we're still bopping

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

How fitting to see my friend, Canuck Don, posting on this thread. Hope you caught those smallmouth bass' relatives, buddy.

Of course!

Did you remember that the six-hour weekly jazz show I hosted for many years on KJZZ-FM was called On The Corner? Cue the Twilight Zone theme.

Please support the musicians who call this place home, folks. That's the root system for everything else that flows from here. Click on the saxophone icon (far left) next to the Jazz Corner sign above for Jazz Sites.

Started lurking in '98, but posted on JOL first for some reason, then I started posting here when I saw that a certain AV freak by the name of Steve Reynolds was posting here (I was a fan of his on JOL). For some reason I never made it to JCS.

I must say I haven't been posting here regularly for quite some time. I've been using my internet time posting on all kinds of other BB's. But that has to change.

Of all the BB's I've been a part of. There is no other online community that is collectively more intelligent, eloquent and close-knit than the community of JC. It is really truly something special. It is about time I jump right in again. Thanks Lois for providing this domain of excellence.

Dark Anthony! Cool. I echo your comments about the crew here. I've made some lifelong friends here and at JCS.

Happy birthday, JC. And props to Lois and Mone. And to the musicians who make it possible for us to have this forum. Buy their records!

I lurked here sometimes when a JCS regular, before the GM, to read (and occasionally post to) Robin Eubanks' very long thread (the longest ever?) "The Future Of Jazz." But that thread and JC itself were pointed out to me by our old friend and these days very occasional poster Bruce Woods. At the time, Robin's thread was about the whole of bbs activity here, but it was an excellent thread. I think Robin's been here for as long as anyone else. It was a natural place for the GM to land.

Strangely, it was also Bruce Woods who alerted me to Signal To Noise magazine, even though he's from Philly and STN comes out of Burlington, VT, where I was living at the time and hadn't a clue about it. Go figure!

Hey, does anyone remember how many years ago was our first (then JCS) Official NYC Hang? I was trying to count them up a while back and realized I couldn't remember all of them.
