Jazz Blends is the unique conjunction of an accomplished vocalist and
saxophonist in an unbeatable combination both whose roots
are deeply set in the best of R&B and traditional jazz.
The combination of Paulette McWilliams and Vincent Herring
is a seminal musical experience that brings an entirely new,
original and fresh concept to the idea that Jazz is a "blend"
of all forms of musical expression.
You can expect a CD of their important music soon...
Look also for the band to be on next year's JVC tours.
Paulette McWilliams was born in Chicago.
A vocalist and songwriter, Paulette has been an essential
part of many careers.
Paulette has written for and recorded with
such greats as Quincy, Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige,
Marvin Gaye, Johnny Mathis, Mavis Staples
and many, many more.
For seventeen years, Paulette was the principal
session and tour singer for Luther Vandross.
Unknown to most, Ms. McWilliams was the original
lead for "Rufus"...she gave her spot to fellow Chi Town
friend Chaka Khan when Quincy called Paulette from
Chicago to LA. Adding to her long and varied career,
Paulette can be heard frequently on commercials
including Folger's and Cover Girl among many others.
Since leaving Luther's band and recording sessions
a few years before his tragic illness, Paulette has
found her own voice...stepping out of the shadows
of the greats with whom she has worked for so long.
Her "Gift" - as described in one of her many moving
original songs - is her love and ability to sing Jazz...
with the resonance, vibrato, depth and range of
Sara Vaughn and the world ranging rythym
and seductive syncopation of Jon Lucien.
Whether singing a classic like "I Wanna Be Loved"
penned by Willie Dixon...or her new original crowd
stirring anthem to love found at long last -
"Black Honey" - Paulette uses the vocal Jazz idiom in
its highest form to lift. celebrate, and move the hearts
and spirits of her fans.
Vincent Herring first toured Europe
and the United States with Lionel Hampton’s big band,
and his progress thereafter has been steady. Vincent
has worked with Nat Adderley, Art Blakey and
The Jazz Messengers, The Horace Silver Quintet,
Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition, Larry Coryell,
Cedar Walton, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, The
Mingus Big Band, Nancy Wilson, The Roy Hargrove Big Band,
Arthur Taylor, Dr. Billy Taylor, Carla Bley, Phil Woods Sax
Machine (a band Phil put together, augmenting his regular
quintet to an octet with 3 additional alto saxophonist’s).
Vincent has appeared as a special guest soloist with
Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center. Vincent also appeared
as a guest soloist with John Faddis and The Carnegie Hall Big Band.
Vincent has recorded 11 CD’s as a leader and over 150 as a
sideman. He is a player who has combined dedication,
education and talent to forge an extraordinary career.
