Candido's 82nd Birthday Party

What a special night at Birdland... In attendance was among other Chico Hamilton, Billy Taylor, Graciela, Giovanni Hidalgo, Candido, Larry Harlow, Bobby Sanabria and Ascenscion, Patato, Ray Barretto, Cuban Pete and so many others (this was just the early show) Bobby's band as always was incredible, with a horn section that includes Jay Collins and Chris Washburne with John DiMartino on piano. Then Patato and Graciela did a call and response that brought the house down. Then Candido plays for about 20 minutes solo. He said he has severe athritis but when he plays he feels "20 years old"

I LOVE Graciela. I think I heard she's had some health problems in the last several years. How did she sound?

She sang from her seat and it was the spirit of the moment so I don't think anybody was really listening to her tone as much as having fun
