Five Men Singing

This is a Victo release from last year's Victoriaville festival with a (male) vocal improv supergroup. (Why all-male, I wonder?) The band (choir?) is Jaap Blonk, Paul Dutton, Phil Minton, Koichi Makigami, David Moss. (Mike Patton must have been unavailable ). I haven't quite decided about this one yet. It's funny & impressive & relentless. It's also pretty showoffy. It's not just an unreheasred improv encounter--each person contributes...I won't say "tunes" or even "compositions", somehow the word doesn't seem quite right. But they're probably working, literally, from the same page (e.g. "Six Cobbings" which I presume is a performance of six of the late Bob Cobbing's visual poems).

Anyway, it's good fun, but the showmanship does put me off, & I'd still rather hear these guys doing solo performances or working with musicians.
