Chicago Underground Trio- Slon

Anybody have this? This is one of my favorite current groups in jazz (along with Medicine Wheel and Dave Holland Quintet). This has a more abrasive sound than their previous (the gold album), as shown by the opener "protest". I love Chad Taylor's playing, a very subtle style it just kinda fills in the gaps. This group has done a better job of melding electronics into their sound than most. This is superior to anything in the "blue series" IMO, and I like a lot of the blue series. They really have a diverse sound too, they can go from sounding like ornette (unison melodies) to aphex twin to miles in short order. They also kind of remind me of a jazzier tortoise which makes sense, since they share the same guitar player.

Cool cover too.

SIAG:
I don't have SLON, but I sent out a call on a JC thread for more Chad Taylor discs last week, after getting the Cooper-Moore/Taylor/Aabs disc, "The Triptych Myth." Do you have that one? It's a gem, and Taylor is outstanding, with sticks, brush work and kalimba.
It turns out I heard him last year and didn't make the connection with the current crop of releases, until I looked at the Chicago stuff (w/Fred Anderson, the Trio, etc.). He played here with Brokeback, who share Taylor and bassist Noel Kupersmith with The Underground Trio. I worked last year with Mrs. Kupersmith, and met Noel between sets. He was cool, and the Brokeback set was o.k. I like the Trio better. Taylor is great.

This thread make me a little sad cuz reminds me that I owned the 1st Tortoise album (now in reprint.....) and I sold it.... about 2 years ago I was very interested in the so-called 'postrock', but after some period I sold it with Slint's Spiderland and others.... I have again the 1st album by Goodspeedyoublackemperor, 'Red Line' by Trans AM, TNT and Standards (this two don't satisfy me very much......), in a period in wich I was more involved in others styles. Another album I've missed (!!) is the 2nd by StormandStress......

I had a Chicago Underground Trio cd a couple of years ago. Can´t remember the title.
I sold it because I couldn´t stand the guitarplayer. I found him very annoying.

Jeff Parker?

I haven't heard any of The Chicago Underground Trio, mainly because I wasn't sure where to start. Would you recommend this album as a first?

I'd recommend this one: this is the quartet version of the group.

Cool--I've been really into stuff like Isotope 217, Tortoise, and Stereolab, so it seems kind of ridiculous that I haven't heard them yet.

It'll have to wait till I have money.
