Skip Bey - R.I.P.

Montreal bassist Skip Bey passed away on July 7 after a long illness. He leaves a wife and two children. Skip lived in Milwaukee during the 70's and 80's and was a mainstay at the Milwaukee Jazz Gallery. He worked with Melvin Rhyne, David Hazeltine, Brian Lynch, Ray Appleton, and others, and toured with Sam Rivers in the 80's. He appears on the cd Then and Now with pianist Oliver Jones. He will be missed by his many friends. A celebration of Skip's music is being planned at the Lion d'Or in Centre-Sud, Montreal.

Sad to hear this; he could not have been very old. I enjoyed Skip's playing many times at the Jazz Gallery, and if had been smart I would've hit him up for lessons. He had an incredibly energetic style as I recall, and he is still spoken of very fondly in the Milwaukee jazz community.
