Where Are The Old Threads?

What happened to all of the old threads from the previous bbs format?

Sorry. Last word I heard was that everything was to move last night. Not meaning to hassle anyone.

The new board is lightyears faster for me. I'm not complaining. Only that there were some discussions going on that I was interested in following.

Gary, as a co-worker of mine whose second language was English once said, "the best laid plants of my cement often go on rye."

As I told you guys on the old JC - we are only able to move the threads and you will be able to view and search. It sucks, but there is no alternative. I checked with about 10 folks and they were not convertable. I think they'll be dropped in next week....

I was kind of hoping the old threads would kinda get lost never to be found again. I'm not particularly proud of some of my stupid comments.................

No doubt the title will be "Examples Of What Not To Post Lest You Wish To Be Thought A Fool"

May we have an update, Lois? That was posted at the end of March. You do still plan to get the old threads, right?

The archives are here. There are over 300,000 posts. What we are trying to do is to prevent when searching that the system crashes out since it's search 300,000 posts.... we are also seeing if they can be incorporated into a forum called archives rather than just linked. If not, I will put the link as soon as we test the search function....

300,000 posts!!!! Aren't you guys embarrased!

Kudos to whomever did all that hard work, Lois (Was it Steve?). This really was a massive, time-consuming undertaking, folks (which was why I didn't want any part of it! :-)). Lois & Co. should be commended for getting it done, period.

Thanks Moné

I think it was a nightmare on all sides. My associates at singulartity design.com did the database dump and conversion, steve at befriend.com put in the search and descending order and matching the look but as I said I don't want to give the link till we test it all out

I don't feel embarassed as much as I feel "old".

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Congratulations!

More kudos go to singularitydesign.com and befriend.com - until a few hours some of the longer posts were truncated. I believe they are all there now in their full glory

Ellery - Steve worked on it for several hours and to me at a quick glance they look complete!

Hi Lois,
Wow, thanks for even looking into this let alone fixing it. I commend you and befriender and whomever else. I know that's gotta be a pain in the butt...

However, speaking of but's...

I noticed many of the posts are now complete but these six remain cut off:

I feel weird even bringing it up but as long as you're into it, we're just about there. You have my gratitude for even trying!!!

Best,
Ellery

Ellery

Thank you and I will pass your compliments on to the chef - steve@befriend.com

I will also pass on about those specific posts. We're monitoring overnight the database since it was corrupt as you know by the time you got on last night.... If everything is cool today (wed) we'll try to get those as well....

It appears there was a batch of truncated messages which last week's troubleshooting didn't catch. Ellery, you have a good eye!

I'm working with the programmer who did the initial import that truncated the messages to ~ 4096 characters. After he sends me a file like he did last week I can run a script I wrote to reimport those messages.

It might be a few days since I have to wait for the file, then run my script and do some basic testing.

Either Lois or I will update everyone when it's done.

Why some of the threads/posts have been removed?
I don´t remember how many posts I had, but of course, not 3 (4 including this) as it appears now!

(I mean in this new era of JCBB)

suggestions that have been implemented or resolved in this area have been deleted. Nothing else was deleted as far as I know. Some links inappropriate in the Links area have been moved to websites we love in the alley

What was removed from this particular thread is the search feature not working since it's been fixed in the archives and all of the threads in archives are now untruncated
