NYC: Musician with sense of humor wanted

Pick up some extra $$ and have fun doing it.

Looking for an unemployed or underemployed musician with some available time (advance student ok, too) .

Dewey, a very talented singing Chinese Crested dog (NO, that’s not a typo or a joke) needs a trombone, sax or harmonica player to play lyrical jazz and show tunes for street music (what the English call “busking”). He’s done TV, private work and now has started busking on Broadway too.

The crowds love him and so will you. Good use of your downtime.

call: 212.877.3563

{JJ Note: This gig is for real apparently, but I'm posting it mainly because it's the best laugh I've had all day!)

SF Bay Area: Musicians for North Beach Jazz Club

We are looking for new musical groups to play at The Beat Lounge (old Black Cat/Blue Bar 501 Broadway) Friday-Saturday and maybe other nights depending on musical style and crowd turnout.

The outline is as follows: Basics: - We have a small stage that will not fit more than 5 people. Lighting is installed and we have monitors for the vocal. We also supply microphones and a small PA. please bring the rest of the equipment

-The room holds about 150 people and it's a lounge/bar. it contains couches, chairs, a small dance floor, and a bar of course. It's a very comfortable room that can be arranged in many ways.

We are considering all music groups regardless of music style. We would prefer a group that can bring in at least 30-50 people, although it's not a requirement. Friday/Saturday: All music formats welcome, but we are looking for an established group that has a following.

PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY

Producer Needs Music for Short Film

Nearly finished (90%) half hour indy short is looking for unique songs for the soundtrack. Bands who are willing to offer a song in exchange for an end credit in the film and promotional mention on our website, in press materials, etc. are encouraged to send CDs ASAP to:

BTOR Productions
614 S. St. Andrews Pl. #506
Los Angeles, CA 90005

A rough cut of the film has already been accepted into a film festival on the East Coast, so you are guaranteed at least that much extra exposure for your group and/or song.

I'm trying to find songs that fit the theme of a lost love, waiting for someone who is gone, the streets, big cold cities, the homeless, or have a message of hope (not in the religious sense, but not opposed to that, either). We already have approval for music from composer John Cage, a Dave Matthews sounding college band, a straight ballad and a jazz/hip-hop song. Would like to hear some music featuring female vocalists, some rock and roll, perhaps a tune that has a "crazy" (as in insane) feel to a section. If you want to point to a specific song to speed up the listening/approval process, that's great.

The cast includes actors who have been on The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, ER, Telemundo, Joy Luck Club, House of Sand and Fog, and much more.

Again, we ARE going to festival with this film, so some exposure is definite. If your song is accepted, we'll send out a synchronization license to obtain permission to use the song in the film and in promotional trailers, commercials, etc.

Also, if you'd like to check out the trailer before submitting, please go to www.ArcTheMovie.com - hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for your attention - look forward to hearing your best!

Boston: Gigging Vocalist Seeks Band

I'm a full-time vocalist in the Boston area. Here's the story: for years I worked as a solo jazz vocalist (here and in NY) and then started working with an all-vocal band that's been my focus for the past two years.

I'm now getting booked for solo jazz gigs and I need a regular band that I can work with. I need solid JAZZ players - that means you know almost every standard, can improvise and solo like a pro, and have performance experience.

I need piano, upright bass, and drums. I would also be open to working with a guitarist from time to time as well.

I'm very outgoing, friendly, and easy to get along with and I look for the same in other musicians if we're working together. If you're interested, please drop me an email -- divataunia@aol.com -- with any info you can (website, soundclips, etc).

My website is www.tauniasoderquist.com.

Thanks!

Oakland, CA: Musicians for Museum Event

Improvisational musicians are needed for a "Musical Masterpieces" event for Black History month at the Oakland Museum. The event will be on Sunday February 20th, 2005 between 1-4pm. Musicians should have a solid background in jazz improvisation. The musicians will interact with families in interpreting artwork in the galleries and also while families paint in the art studio.

This event should be fun and might lead to future gigs at the Musuem. 5-6 musicians are needed for 3 hours and the pay is $100-150 per musician. African American musicians preffered since the gig is in honor of black history month.

If interested, please contact Carey Fruzza at the Oakland Museum:

Boston Area: Band for Private Event

Looking for a 3 or 4 piece band for a Comedy night. This is for a 300-person event where 3 comedians will be entertaining a local civic organization. Looking for a band to perform in between acts with the goal of energizing the crowd and keeping the event moving. Possibly along the lines of the house band on David Letterman.... upbeat, lively, but not overpowering. A band that includes brass would be ideal, and that does a combination of covers and upbeat improvisation.

Most of the people attending will be in their 50’s and 60’s and will be at a country club, approximately one hour south west of Boston. The event is Friday night, November 19th. Pay is negotiable.

If interested, please contact 508-740-1379.
