workshop

Hi,
I am from the Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center in West
Orange, NJ. We are having a Jazz Workshop Aug. 9-13. It is shaping up
to be a success, but we could use more students. We especially need
bassists and drummers. The cost of the workshop is $350, but partial and full scholarships are available. Our faculty includes Harvie S (bass),
Quincy Davis (drums), Xavier Davis (piano), Claudio Roditi (trumpet), Ed
Palermo (arranger), and others. If any of you know of any students that might be interested, please email me their contact info or call OSPAC at
1-973-669-7385. For more info on the workshop, please check out our
website at www.ospac.org. Thank you very much.

Woodstock, VT, a quaint, historic village in the middle of scenic Vermont, has been called “the prettiest small town in America” and the “quintessential New England village.” For 10 days in June (June 20– June 29), Woodstock will be opening its doors and its ears to Interplay Jazz. One will be able to hear concerts, jam sessions, classes on jazz improvisation and jazz history, and view jazz films on the historic Town Hall Theater’s big screen.

Students will meet daily to talk about upcoming activities, and then move into the flow of master classes, rehearsals, ear training, jazz theory, yoga, meditation and much more!

Local establishments will be hosting evening performances and jam sessions. And several beautiful Bed and Breakfasts, the Val Roc Motel, and the Woodstock Inn and Resort will be home to our students for the week.

Vocalists and Intermediate/Advanced Improvisers will have two days at the end of their time at Interplay to address issues specific to their level of experience after the Beginning/Intermediate Improvisers have their final performance. We will all have four days together (Monday - Thursday) to enjoy and support each other!

We feel that this new schedule concept will allow everyone to have some time together as well as a couple of days to focus on issues specific to their level of experience. We plan to have more meals together, morning as well as afternoon yoga classes, opportunities to play with a variety of groups as well as one specific ensemble throughout the week, work with different combo coaches, and provide more structured jam session opportunities.

The staff of Interplay has received a number of great suggestions and it is our goal to implement as many positive changes as we can to further your growth as well as ours. Please put these dates on your calendar and send me an email if you think you might be attending. I’ll be sure to send you an application early next year.

Tipitina's does workshops here in New Orleans almost every Sunday afternoon.
Usually from noon to around 4. Students bring your instruments.
They also prohibit smoking and drinking during the workshop.
