You may use your own music, but please be prepared to use BSO parts if necessary.

The Audition Committee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.

Employment will begin as soon as the winner's availability and the Boston Symphony Orchestra schedule allow. Should a position be won by a current BSO member, the resulting vacancy may be offered to the runner-up of the audition.

Oakland Jazz Choir Open Auditions
Saturday, September 18, 2004
First Congregational Church of Oakland
(corner of Harrison St. and 27th St., Oakland

Audition scheduled to start at 10 AM and will consist of learning a part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) ahead of time. Materials (sheet music and CD) will be available from the Oakland Jazz Choir office. Be prepared to stay a minimum of 4 hours for this audition.

Requirements: Ability to sing on pitch, strong feel for syncopation, solid ability to hold a harmony part, team-focused attitude, a love for jazz and the ability to commit to weekly Wednesday night rehearsals (7 - 10 PM). Vocal ensemble experience preferred. Sight-reading / music-reading is helpful, but not required.

The Oakland Jazz Choir is a performance group of 30 singers led by Artistic Director Stephanie Austin. OJC sings traditional and contemporary jazz with original arrangements. A $25/month dues is required. Work-study positions are available.

OJC has performed at such notable venues as Yoshi's, Kimballs East, The Great American Music Hall, and the SF Jazz Festival; and with special guests Madeline Eastman, Mark Murphy, Keith Terry, Faye Carol, Brenda Boykin and Terrance Kelly.

OJC is a project of Rhythmic Concepts, Inc., an Oakland-based non-profit corporation dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of jazz.
