*****Jazz For Children*****
11:30am - 1:30pm
At Willow Entertainment and The Wequassett Inn Resort and Golf Club, our goal is to expose children to the joy of live jazz. We believe that young people can enjoy the liveliness of jazz and appreciate it's heritage if given the chance, and that jazz can thrive if a new generation of educated music listeners is cultivated. To that end we are proud to announce a special program, "Jazz For Children". Percussionist Ricardo Monzon, professor at Berklee College and member of the Boston Pops, is joined by singer/saxophonist Stan Strickland. Stan has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia and the former Soviet Union performing in clubs and concert halls (including Jordan and Symphony Halls in Boston, Carnegie Recital Hall and Town Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. ) Rounding out the quartet, we have Joe Mullholand on piano and upright bassist Bruce Gertz. All the members of the quartet are instructors at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston and are particularly adept at explaining their art to students. There will be literature passed out as well.
The group will demonstrate each of the instruments individually; melodically, harmonically and rhythmically with a focus on how they relate to each other. Children will have the opportunity to explore the instruments up close. During the performance, kids will be invited to ask questions and join in with the band playing percussion instruments and being on stage to get the full flavor of being part of a performance.
