Bill McHenry - Graphic

Bill McHenry - tenor sax
Ben Monder - guitar
Reid Anderson - bass
Gerald Cleaver - drums

This one came out a few years back on FSNT, but I don't remember seeing anything in particular devoted to it (probably in the archives if it was). Really fantastic compositions and fascinating playing by all involved... a little bit of a Latin vibe to some of the rhythms, almost samba-ish, but also very loose (not quite free, but you get the idea). More importantly, the group seems to hit a special chemistry amongst themselves, adding a certain indescribable quality that transcends any particular observations on my part.

Check this one out if you can find it. A friend just gave me a copy, which is why I'm bringing this up now.

chucky, I just love this CD. Such intelligent, thoughtful playing of some really memorable compositions. It was my first exposure to Monder, too, who I've become a big fan of. You might also like Reid Anderson's FSNT release The Vastness of Space, which also features McHenry and Monder.

Haven't heard this yet. I have heard McHenry on Chris Lightfoot's "Big Mouth" with Tony Malaby. That's a fine disk as well.

McHenry & Malaby also perform on Lightcap's Lay-Up. In fact, it's the same line-up on both recordings.
