Guess not! In any case, I'll be interested to read this--Chambers did a reasonable job, I thought, with his Miles bio.

I'm a fan. I have three albums. I'm skeptical that a guy who died so young can have 400 interesting pages written about him.

Of course Twardzik was a talent never giving himself the opportunity to develop his potential. I must, admit, though, that thoughts about a bio on a life so short struck me too.

But what the hell, one of the tabloids just wrote that Britney Spears is writing her auotobio. And she's still a virgin (or was that last year's news?).

Dick Twardzik

I played several sessions with Dick (& Peter Lippman) in Boston in the early 50's -- he was unlike anything I had ever heard. This was WAY before Cecil Taylor -- and he played at a near genius level. Amazing!! BB

Bob, did you read the Chet Baker "book"...Lost in a Dream?..I met Chet a few times , so no great fan of him as a person/but the music was great on a good night ...but Dick seemed to figure a lot in that book ? Was he really that significant? I must admit I never got it. Herbie Nichols, yes, Dick T...never resolved...and as for Cecil Taylor...well, "Looking Ahead" ? Almost the same turf.... still stacks up (IMHO) remarkably. Anyway, best from DK! When are you back?

Twardzik

Richard -- from Copenhagen, no less. No, I have no interest in Chet's bio -- his music was a gift and his life a complete waste. Also -- "back from where?" -- if you mean am I coming back to CPH, I may play the Jazzhouse with my new band (Quartet East) at some point but I left the Radio Band forever! BB

Bob - Will really look forward to it - your new Quartet in DK. Never quite got over you and Mulligan playing "Moonlight in Vermont" in Paris (A classic concert ) ...OK, you are prob. sick of people telling you this, but it really had a major influence. And the Ray Charles track - "When your lover has gone " ? - 1959 - Hell, my wife & I got married to these ! SO, Many thanks - more than you know.

Best wishes, Richard & Anna - Copenhagen. Hope you can make DK.

Marcel,
After repeatedly getting no response from the publisher, I finally contacted Jack Chambers directly. He says late-spring, early-summer... I'll post any updates that I receive.

There was an excerpt from this book in the July/August issue of Coda and it was harrowing reading. If the book measures up at all, it should be really great. What a sad life for such a brilliant musician.
