It's not just her lack of conventional good looks. It's the dispassionate look in her eyes. She looks genuinely mean and angry, not just because she's being accused of horrendous acts, but because her eyes are dead. Frightening appariton.

I don't know if you're missing something. We're discussing Lynndie England's demeanor.
There is no Lynndie England action figure, of which I'm aware, but the idea that she could be the model for an action figure, exemplifying the typical U.S. woman in uniform makes me cringe.

Ah, that bitch is something else.
If I had a god I'd pray that she would rot in hell.

My point was that Ms England comes from a family who is not exactly mainstream America. Those of you who are familiar with the supporting cast of "Trailer Park Boys", here in Canada would have recognized the cartoon-like people. When they were shown on the news, reacting to Lynndie England's being charged with abuse of prisoners, that's all I could think of.

Maybe not from the widest or deepest stream, but she is one of millions just like her, all across this great country called America.

Patricia, I'm having a hard time with what you've written here, and I've just figured out why: You take the idea of Class for granted. I should--I mean I know what "trailer trash" means--but even after all these years its hard to get out of the habit of thinking of America as a classless society. I'm just two generations away from dirt-poor farmers, and that's my father's side. My mother's side--well, my great-grandmother was a witness at the trial when her stepmother was found guilty of murdering her husband. That's the kind of folks THEY were.
Don't get me wrong: I know the truth of class in America. If anything, I've surprised myself at my reaction.
Regardless: You're far too kind in your assessment of the American Public.

The idea for the thread was supposed to be humorous. Something to go with my Ann Coulter and Jesus action figures.
But seriously, I actually see this young woman as a victim of all this. She should be punished for what she did, but a lot of people would have behaved in the same way given the same circumstances. The environment in that prison was poison. That mixed up with encouragement from on high and a few first class psycopaths like Grainer (the father of England's baby) and you end up with those famous photographs of men in dog collars. Her social standing, family background and intelligence have very little to do with this. A woman from a nice middle class family would have done the same. I feel as sorry for her as I do with HER victims. Maybe that's fucked up, I don't know. I just know it's too easy to assume that I'm better than that and that I'm not capable of the same.
Plus, I just SO want to take her to Denny's.

Sorry Ennis, but I can't just let some of these remarks fall by the wayside. I trust that you and cousin Clay will understand.
The idea for the thread was supposed to be humorous. Something to go with my Ann Coulter and Jesus action figures.
• This thread was/is humorous, conceptually, though it's difficult to avoid certain responses due to the nature of the images and charges. Have you approached Mattel or Hasbro?
She should be punished for what she did, but a lot of people would have behaved in the same way given the same circumstances.
• That's purely conjecture, and this thread isn't about "a lot of people", it's about this young creep named Lynndie England.
Her social standing, family background and intelligence have very little to do with this.
• To the contrary, I submit that her family background and intelligence are likely at the very core of this scenario.
A woman from a nice middle class family would have done the same.
• Sorry, but that's a totally unsupportable statement.
I just know it's too easy to assume that I'm better than that and that I'm not capable of the same.
• I can't speak for you or anyone else, but I'm confident that I'm "better than that", and am incapable of the same behavior.
Plus, I just SO want to take her to Denny's.
• Go nuts, man.

It wasn't meant to be an assessment of any American Public that I know. These people seemed almost an aberration.
I was quite surprised at how I reacted when I saw the family that Lynndie England came from. It was almost stereotypical. I couldn't believe that they were almost characatures. I know that it isn't necessarily true that just because people are uneducated and ill-groomed and live in reduced circumstances, doesn't mean that they don't subscribe to accepted morals and values, just like everybody else.

Ron: Me and cousin Clay take no offense.
My response was purely from the gut (uhhhhh). I have no idea what I would have done in the same situation. There were number of psycological studies that were mentioned after the prison scandle that suggested that people in similar positions would act with cruelty toward prisoners, or anyone under their total control. Also, I still don't buy the social background/intelligence argument; that THAT is part of why she did what she did.
And I'd still LOVE to have her by my side as I drive up to the head of the "holler" with a case of Budweiser, a bag of weed and two tabs of windowpane. But that's my problem.
Next Product Idea:
A life size Monica doll!

Patricia,
I think the dispassionate look in her eyes come from her being way in above her head. She's what. 21, 22? I'm willing to bet that she'd never even been outside of her own state before she joined the Army. I can relate, I was 18 when I joined the Army back in the dark ages. You don't think, you react.
England and the other NCOs will be sacrificed. This scandal won't go any higher than them.
By the way, this is no defense. Just "following orders" doesn't play. But the military's already whitewashing this thing.
