What happens if Nader wins
I hope some of you people have given that more thought than myself and can educate me a bit.
What's gonna happen and how is he gonna do it?
Are the tools gonna stop bitching?
Will the lockstoppers be able to control themselves?
Are the libertarians gonna think he is not worse than the other two?
What's A-Q gonna do with Nader?

If Nader wins the laws of gravity will be suspended, cows will sprout wings and fly, pigeons will begin preaching and speaking in tongues, and groves of trees will start to croon a cappella harmonies.

Just sticking to a limited area, insurance rates would likely go up in such lines as med-mal, and product liability which would push up medical and pharmaceutical costs. And his attempts to prevent insurers from getting any premium increases to cover these additional costs--what he'd no doubt consider gauging (& gauging would definitely be in there, too of course), would make availability of coverage problems worse. Again, blowing up all existing trade agreements would make everything else more expensive too.
The guy's hamfisted, IMO, which isn't good when issues are complicated.
OTOH, I think Edwards and his buddies would do quite well. Actually, Nader really should have the support of all tort lawyers everywhere. He'd make their lives quite a bit better, I think. And a handful of American workers would benefit marginally as well--in spite of what I think would be significant increases in their cost of living.
Anyhow, that's my take on a couple of domestic results, Uli.

It doesn't really matter how the votes go, one-time hero Nader is a loser.

The problem with people like Ralph Nader, IMO, is that they sometimes, as in this case, don't realize that their value to society is that they bitch and moan, sometimes justifiably, thus spurring other people into action against injustice. Jesse Jackson does the same thing.
They serve in the same capacity as a minority opposition party does in government, as the conscience of the community.
However, actually coming up with a plan for inplementing the changes which they want has been up to the ones who actually have power.
Complaining is the easy part. Bringing egregious issues to the fore, and actually fixing them, is not something that Mr Nader has ever had to do.
His value has always been to be the thorn in the government and in society's side, agitating. He has never had to actually do anything, beyond bringing problems to our attention.
We all know what we would do, if we were President, but actually wearing the hat is different than being a critic. I am put in mind of an often quoted remark by Somerset Maugham, who once said about critics, "They are like eunichs in a harem. They know how it's done. They see it done every day. But they can't do it themselves."
Besides applying, obviously in a different context, to Mr Nader's political ambitions, that also, I think, applies to Mr Bush, when he took on the job, judging by the decisions he has made in the last four years. Being President looks easy, until you actually are President.

The problem with Nader is, IMO, that early achievements have so inflated his ego that it now stands in the way of reason and whatever concern for the public he once had is obliterated by that ego.

I think that this time even Nader's supporters from Elections 2000 are reluctant to vote for him, preferring to set their ideals aside and vote for someone who can actually get elected. This is not the year to make a statement.

Well, if that were the case, he wouldn't be polling at 3-4 percent.

Liberal Democrat?
Define Liberal for me, 'Pop.
No Liberal votes for war, OK?
Never cared about this country?
This would explain those decades in public office, huh.
You know, 'Pop...the more you post the more I am convinced you haven't got a clue in hell what it is you're talking about.
Have a nice day.

Oh, I get it Goody. Its not cool for me to insult YOU, but it IS ok if you go around insulting Gary Sisco and Frankiepop. (Check the other Nader thread for Gary's response to your insults)
Furthermore, you insult people and call them out on the very thing you're guitly of, mainly among other things being a hypocrite

Insult?
I see...so to point out the completely obvious is an insult then, eh?
You got no room to talk, Bo'. Neither do Sisco or Frankiepop. You guys wrote the book on insult and sheer nastiness on this BBS.
I think you quit while you're behind, OK?
Have a nice day.

If Nader wins, we'll be witness to the most incredible job of computer hacking ever!
Since there's no paper records, who is to dispute the result?
Other than that obscure possibility, the title of the thread and the entire notion is simply laughable at best.

That's funny Goody, because nobody else on this board seems to have a problem with me.
at the same time you've had run-ins with four different people in a 24 hour period. Sisco, Me, Frankie, and Crawjo.
Why is that?

#1 That's not exactly true, now is it. You've had numerous run-ins and hissy fits with several members of this community and you know it.
#2 I see. 24 hours? That's the sword you choose to fall on? I've been on this BBS since March of 2003 and one day is all you can use to determine your self-serving statement?
#3 Frankiepop is a troll and you know it. You are untrustworthy as it relates to playing nice on this BBS...your past speaks volumes on this point. Sisco has had it in for me ever since I blew the lid off of his puffed-up self-importance about public education; he doesn't know diddly-squat. Crawjo fired on me first with insults and various other bullshit...I responded. Just like you would.
You're blowing smoke here, Bo' in an effort to justify yourself.
Yeah...I think you know that one, too.

Goodspeak is just dumbfounded that I referenced an election that took place prior to the television and the automobile, which as we all know eradicated electoral corruption in this country simply by virtue of their coming into existence.
Without doing a google search, I imagine that ol' Goody might have a hard time identifying the candidates for president in 1876, never mind the issues and how the election was decided.
He must be one hell of a teacher.

There is not one person on this BBS that I don't get along with, except for you. Sure I've had run-ins, mostly everyone has, that doesn't mean I don't respect them and move on.
I have a proposition of an ignoring policy that I've outlined in the other Nader thread. I hope you accept.

[heaviest of sighs]
Bo',
Nice try.
Denial is not a family value, OK?
Look...I'd love to discuss with you on any topic, but you won't let that happen. Can't you see?
Tell you what....I'll take the high road on this one: You stay out of my stuff, I'll stay out of yours.
Deal?

Ok, now that we've had our parting shots, the deal is on. We don't exist to each other any more. We BOTH take the high road.
Best.

If Nader won, I would have to rebuke myself for the facetious support I have given him since 1999.

If Nader wins, the moon is made of cheese; pigs fly; Bush develops an intellect; Koch turns straight; water is dry; the 2000 election was not tampered with; lead floats; Monte turns to Islam; Rumsfeld returns from Iraq with huge bouquets of flowers; Bill O'Reilly shuts up; Club Med takes over the Guantanamo facility; Gordon cancels his subscription to The Economist; WMDs are found in a democracy called Iraq; Wolfowitz splurges on a tube of Brylcreem; Saudi women line up for Kuwaiti cabbie licenses; Condi Rice and Powell see things as they are; Arafat gives his Nobel Prize to Sharon, who has moved to France; Cosby develops a sense of humor; Fox News becomes fair and balanced; typewriters make a comeback; Stanley Crouch's face appears on cereal boxes; The Faroe Islands tourist board hires a bigger staff; Microsoft actually invents something; skunks become deliciously fragrant; Phil Schaap admits that he made most of it up; a guy with long blond hair appears in Central Park and crosses the lake on foot; Dick Cheney......
