Happy Birthday Frank and Kathi Lee Gifford

Both of these darlings celebrate their birthday today, August 16th. He is now 74 years young and she is a dazzling 51. Best wishes, kids.

What color shoepolish is Gifford using on his hair? His hair probably hasn't been that color since Bednarik cocked him.

We're throwing a party for about seven hundred at the cabana of my second home in honor of this great day. We have five roasted oxen going on the spits for the meat eaters in the crowd (sorry crawjo). Me, I'm concentrating on the narco buffet.

Isn't it nice that LTG doesn't let us forget these landmark dates?

It's my ex-wife's birthday on the 16th. Should I send flowers?

He was a helluva running back, good hands, fluid moves.

He was in that great Giant/Packer NFL pre-Super Bowl Championship game.

You missed his prime, Walt. He was an NFL MVP and many time all-league halfback. Well into his career he got racked up badly, head injury (by Chuck Bednarick, iirc), and retired. When he unretired he came back as a flanker back, but he wasnn't nearly as effective as he had been.

Have you ever read Fred Exley's novel, "A Fan's Notes", Walt? Gifford is the object of his adoration.

Nope. As I mentioned on another thread, there aren't too many sports books I have read. BTW, I didn't think Gifford was a bad flanker.

You might be thinking of another year and another opponent, maybe 1956 against the Bears. Gifford and the Giants were swallowed up by the Packers in 1962 (the only championship game Giff played against them). The day belonged to Jim Taylor and Ray Nitschke, who was named MVP.

I have a book that recaps every down from the 1958 NFL Championship Game between the Colts and the Giants, the "Greatest Game Ever Played." The prose is so purple that you can't help but read it in John Facenda's voice. Gifford is described in the most glowing terms, like a God descended from the heavens, but he didn't have a good day in this one, either, fumbling the ball away twice in the second quarter. The Colts scored touchdowns on both subsequent possessions, on their way to a 23-17 victory.

Being a Packer fan, I thought it was a great game.

Hey, let's get focused. The Giffords will be celebrating their birthdays. Please limit the discussion to the various ways you creative people can mark the occasion. Thank you!

Frank is 76 years young, and Kathie Lee is 53. How did you guys celebrate? I just said a simple prayer that God preserve and protect these national treasures.

My prayers have been answered. They made it through another life-affirming year! I know it's a few days premature but..Here's to the two of you... many happy returns, kids!
