Miller Beers Salute to Rock
Even moi, who is not much of a rock fan was stunned by Miller Beer's selection of rock greats to grace their cans.
All whities with Bon Jovi, Blondie and their ilk.
No Little Richard, Fats Domino, Platters, etc., etc.
It's time for a boycott of Miller, methinks.

I do like the Champagne of Beers (so shoot me), but this campaign is definitely not a good thing. Who vets these things?

All of Miller's ad campaigns stink, in my opinion. That whole line of "Here's to football!" crap is really awful.

HELLO????!!!!
Not that we would be paying much attention to this, but in my 'side view mirror' have noticed these bands are touring, and it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think that these are Miller-Lite tours or whatever.
Bingo!

Notwithstanding Mike Schwartz astute cynicism, I agree with my friend Cherches, although I will defend to the death Chris Dupres' right to enjoy a Miller's now and then.....................

Har har har. I love it when righteous indignation hits the telephone pole of rational explanation after a case of Miller or two.

I'd rather have a Guinness with pictures of Van Morrison, Phil Lynott, and Bono on it.
Actually, I could do without the Bono. He's become overexposed.

I remember the night my admiration for George Thorogood ended. In the middle of his set, he did an out-and-out ad for Budweiser. Big beer companies are the worst thing that ever happened to rock'n'roll.

I have an idea for beer companies in the DC area: cans celebrating 80s hardcore. Minor Threat, Teen Idles, Youth Brigade, Government Issue, Bad Brains, etc.
It'd be localized but huge. A micro brewery could clean up with the idea. And I bet every city in the USA has a similar market. Six pack and a CD.

Excellent idea. Boston is ripe with possibilities, ranging from The Lyres to Unnatural Axe to Mission of Burma. These are all commercially "safe" since they're either extinct or have been in business for 20 years.
Here in Asheville, I don't know. Very strange scene here, what with the punkoid Celtic and bluegrass bands and whatnot.

A Boston brewery could clean up nationwide with a Pixies brew this fall. If man is five, if man is five, than the devil is a six pack then the devil is a six pack then the devil is a six pack. This monkey bought a case! This monkey bought a case!

'Righteous indignation' would imply that I gave a shit, or was surprized that one more time black pioneers in music and entertainmant got hosed.

I wasn't talking about you, Mike. On the contrary: you effectively exploded with your rationality the righteous indignation previously expressed by clint and Chris D. They flustered before the truth was known, and you provided the truth.

I liked Bono until he took on this persona of trying to save the world. I think he was even on the cover of Time Magazine. I find his messianic posturing in a lot of U2 songs to be really irritating.

Last time I was glad to see him was halftime at the Super Bowl in 2002, and that was mainly because we were kicking butt and I had a feeling all that patriotic hoo-ha would be good for the Patriots.

Once upon a long time ago, when the Miller Brewing Company's slogan was "Brewed only in Milwaukee...naturally," they made a very good beer. I remember in the early 1980s having my first sip of Pilsner Urquell...and it took me back to being nine years old and having a sip of my dad's Miller at a pizzeria in Bethpage, NY. That was in 1959. By the mid-60s, Miller had discovered the delights of mass-marketing, and that was the end of that.

I never understood beer. It tastes like shit, but they tell you to keep trying and you'll develop a taste for it it. Hey, I already have a taste for orange, lemonade, ginger beer, dandilion and burdock, ice-cream soda, tea, and that greatest of all liquid refreshments - Fentiman's Curiosity Cola.
Why in the hall would I wanna develop a taste for something that's addictive and makes me act stupid?

I think this is why 'rock' split from 'rock'n'roll'. It's the only way those tub-thumpers could get a look in.
Incidentally Pt. 2 - Anyone who's into rock music may be interested in this sale that just spammed into my mailbox.
