Jazz workshop

www.jazzsmugglers.com the workshop is starting up again after the silly season is over - silly, as in holidays - next Friday September 3rd in West sussex England, at 7.00pm. The web site gives you details.

Actually, this forum gets a lot of knowledgeable readers. I posted this recently with no replies - can anyone here help?

I'm helping a friend (Terry Seabrook, leader of Cubana Bop) to launch his new CD. I'm retired from marketing now, but I've never marketed music and need a bit of help.

1) I've got a list of Jazz Critics in the UK - our home market - with e-mail addresses and postal also. Is it best to get the CD to them via e-mail as an attachment, together with the press kit, or do they prefer it through the post? Or should I send them a couple of songs by e-mail and ask them if they want the whole thing? (Too easy for them to ignore or say no, I don't like it really, myself)

2) We've had the agony of trying to find a record company to publish the first CD but we never got it right. How do you set about getting distribution, shops, wholesalers etc if you self publish? Or do we just go for the three big chains? And how would we market it in the States this way?

3) What about on-line marketing through the sites which sell your own cds, does this work? Could we get sales in Japan, and other countries this way?

Would be grateful for advice.
