Yeah, good, but a little too genteel & pricey. The places in Newark are dirt cheap.

A few years back I was travelling through New Jersey with a co-worker who is Portuguese. He had us detour through some pretty deperessed areas of Newark to find this incredible Portuguese restaurant... damn that was some great food... the Rioja was out of this world too.
Boy, I wish I could eat with the variety of some of the posters on this thread. Last night, my wife made some if her homemade spaghetti. Served with a big glass of Zinfandel: heaven.
Later,
Kevin

The Philippines are renowned for their fake menudo and take great pride in it. Ideally, it's eaten to the accompaniment of a fake Beatles cassette.

Fusilli con pulpo. The octopus is from a can (Goya), but it works quite well in a pasta sauce.

I'm eating what we in this part of the country call Greek pizza. It's a pan pizza with a little thicker bottom crust than NY style pies and virtually no crust on the edges. It's also quite oily. I love it. These pies are sold mostly by a family of restaurants around here known as Captain's Pizza House Restaurant......

My wife's oopma for breakfast this AM, after a week of dining out in Seattle. Yum.
Things eaten in Seattle included some Malay fish dish whose name escapes me (delicious), fish 'n' chips (decent, but not outstanding), kadhai ghosht (quite good), red panang curry at a Thai place (excellent), a westernized variant on the same over crab and pasta (also excellent). Also some freshly roasted cashews (heavenly).

I've enjoyed calamari and eggs at that "soulful" coffee shop near the Fairgrounds in Monterey many times! Can't think of the name of the place - Aunt Something or Other?!?

Yesterday made quickie broccoli empanadas for supper, just finished a fat ham-n-swiss sandwich for lunch.
Would like to eat out the heart of a certain colleague, but that would probably get me fired.

Did somebody say "grinder"?
Hit it, girls!
From Blues Lyrics Online:
Quote:
Ethel Waters recorded this Clarence Williams composition on 23 August 1928 in New York. It's included on the CD "the chronological Ethel Waters: 1926-1929" on the French Classics label.
Only weeks later, Victoria Spivey also recorded it. . . .
ORGAN GRINDER BLUES
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
Organ grinder, play that melody
Take your organ, grinder, and grind some more for me
Grind it north, grind it north,
Grind it north, grind it east or west,
But when you grind it slow, that's when I like it best
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
You don't have to pass your hat around any more
Cause you're just the grinder I've been waitin' for
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
your sweet music seems to ease my mind
It's not only your organ, but it's the way you grind
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
organ grinder, you've found that sweet lost chord
Start grindin', and grind your room and board
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
Organ grinder, don't tell me you're through
Cause if you want a little intermission,
then mama's gonna grind a while for you
Organ grinder, organ grinder,
Organ grinder, I will give you anything you choose
If you'll just cure my organ, of those grinding blues

Just had a breakfast of champions of sorts
a tortilla and left over black beans (i think my wife makes some of the best black beans around and they get quite funky after they sat a couple of days in the fridge) . Today I put two good slices of Brie over the beans. Topped by 2 eggs sunny side up (are there any rules against doing eggs in the microwave?) and a generous amount spicey ranchero sauce. Washed down with gin and agua de coco. Out of this world, baby! I am ready for a nap soon.
