Free pop-up blocker recs

I used to have Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper, which I was able to license for free thanks to my AT&T WorldNet service. Well, I have a new laptop and no more AT&T, and now all I can get is 30 days of trial time with that software. I don't want to pay, but I also don't want to install some sh** that's going to load me up with spyware or ads. Any suggestions? I'm not holding out for a product that's foolproof. Just something to give me back close to what I had that won't cost me anything.

Larry, I've been using the Google toolbar for some time now, and can't report any problems as it cuts through at least 99% of the pop-ups I used to have to deal with.

Try using Mozilla, Firefox (My current favorite) or Opera as your main browser. No pop-ups, baby!

You should all be using Firefox, dammit. There's no reason not to.

Larry, get thee to www.mozilla.org and download it.

I'll second Jim Dye's recommendation on Mozilla's latest browser, Firefox. I've been using if for over six months without a single popup or other annoyance, Larry. It's the shit! And, it's FREE.

You get:

• Tabbed Browsing
• Pop-Up Blocker
• Google built-in to Toolbar, along with other search tools
• Totally customizable
• Increased security and privacy, including anti-spyware
• Hassle-free downloading

...nothing short of a revelatory experience.- Maximum PC

...a breath of fresh air... Microsoft should be worried.- FORBES

I've been using the Google toolbar, myself. Seems to work fine.

Yeah, that's what my colleagues have been telling me. I just installed it, was using Mozilla. I'm inherently lazy, so these kinds of minor changes take me a while.

Larry--

It looks as if you may have solved your problem, but in case you ever use IE again, I'll report that I'm another satisfied Google toolbar user.

Larry and anybody else who uses Firefox, a pretty good list of extensions can be found
here.

Adblock is crucial. Once that is installed go to this page
and add the filters in the Adblock box on that page.

Googlebar and Tabbrowser extensions are the most critical.
Also go to Tools-Options-Advanced-Accessibility and make sure the second of the first three boxes is checked but not the other two. Then you can search anytime for a word on a webpage by just typing it. G will go to the next occurrence of the same word.

I recently discovered that if you go to the address bar and type dict and then any word, you will get a dictionary definition of that word. Pretty cool!
