Ochs/Jeanrenaud/Masaoka, Fly Fly Fly

Anyone heard this? Just gave it a spin yesterday & really liked it, especially the first two tracks which have a simplicity & calm which I haven't heard in Ochs' other projects (e.g. ROVA). (Things get denser on the last two pieces.) It's tenor sax (+ a little sopranino), cello, koto, recently released on Intakt though it seems to have been recorded a few years back. Will try to report more fully once I give it a closer listen...

I like it to.

I bought the record to Larry Ochs at a concert who was followed the release of the CD.
Masaoka was there but not Jeanrenaud replace by Peggy Lee.
The concert was as good as the record and not at all affected by the change of the cellist.

My friend's wife is good friends with Joan Jeanrenaud. I got to meet her at a barbeque over the Labor Day weekend. VERY nice woman.

I enjoyed this one a lot as well, particularly (as Nate said) the first two pieces. On the radio, I played the piece "Fly Fly Fly" in a set that began with a piece from John Butcher's solo project 13 Friendly Numbers, folowed by a piece from Butcher/Masaoaka/Robair's "Guerilla Mosaics", then a piece from Kowald/Masaoaka/Robair's "Illumintions", and finally the Fly Fly Fly piece.

A few weeks later I began set with "Mystery Street" from Fly Fly Fly, then pieces by cellist Daniel Levin (on Riti Records), George Schuller, and John Abercrombie's last ECM record.

I'm curious now about Larry Ochs' upcoming tour with What We Live + Saadet Turkoz. I've never been a big fan of these type of vocal/improv collaborations, but I can't imagine this one with WWL missing the mark. They're coming in to Ann Arbor's Edgefest in October.

I heard Cecil wanted another $100K for the two remaining "Fly"s and the five exclamation marks.
