Patti Smith to take stage with Television

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Punk-era New York music icons Patti Smith and Television plan to share a stage for the first time since 1977.

The artists will perform Oct. 2 at Gotham's Roseland Ballroom.

The date is significant for Smith, as it is the 135th anniversary of the birth of spiritual/political leader Mahatma Gandhi, to whom she pays tribute on her well-received latest album, "Trampin'," released in April via Columbia.

I gotta think that's going to be a great show.
I would imagine that Verlaine will sit in for at least a tune or two in Patti's set.

If you look in the Forum Suggestions section, I started a thread suggesting a non-jazz record review area. Bluenoter suggester I simply post one in the Alley. Well, I haven't gotten around to it, but the album that inspired my post was Patti Smith's Trampin'.

I may still get around to posting a legit review, but let me say this:

TRAMPIN' IS A BRILLIANT !@#$%ING ALBUM!

Some of her best vox, best melodies, and best songs ever, plus the band's tight and kickin', and the production is lean and clean. An incredibly fabulous album that everyone who likes Smith in the slightest should own and cherish.

One of the highlights is a powerful anti-Iraq-war song with this wonderful line:

"They're robbing the cradle of civilization."

Thanks for the inspiring review there GG. Will be purchasing this week!

Just last week, I burned two punk comps. One was Television, the other, Patti Smith.

Freakin' Out in VT,

Mingus

Trampin' is a great Smith release, perhaps her best for awhile.

Saw her live about a year ago in a club in SF. GREAT show. Amazing how she's managed to stay relevant nearly 30 years after "Horses".
