Just got this sent to me from the UK.

Review:

EDDIE HENDERSON – ‘Time & Spaces’ Sirocco Music (SJL 1027)

Eddie Henderson likes to play with both elements of his title, space and time, and this excellent quartet provides him with ample opportunity. The music evokes the feel of late 60’s Miles, in the final period of the great quartet but just ahead of plunge into jazz-rock. Even the tunes the trumpeter chooses relate to that era, specifically Wayne Shorter’s ‘Water Babies’, ‘Masquelero’ and ‘Angola’, and Joe Zawinul’s ‘Directions’.

His own originals ‘Spaces’ and ‘ Entropy’ have a similar openness in both structure and execution (the former is based on the changes of Erik Satie’s ‘Gnossiennes No 2’, and the latter is a reworking of his own ‘Galaxy’ from the early 70’s). The band dig into the music with relish and invention, with the trumpeters plangent lyricism complimented by Kikoski’s daring pianism, and a top-drawer bass and drum combination. A couple of tender ballads (one written by the trumpeter’s wife) round out a fine set that evokes a classic sound without feeling dated. FOUR STARS (excellent - recommended)

I love Eddie Henderson's stuff. He's eminently qualified to extend the vision of Miles. Kikoski's also one of my favorite contemporary jazz pianists. This one is definitely going on my want list.

Well I think I can say that you wont be dissapointed.

It arrived in the mail from Sirocco yesterday but I could not play it until this afternoon.

WOW!!! Henderson is really playing his ass off here. I don't know for sure just how old EH is but he just seems to get stronger and stronger.

Also Dave Kikoski just blows me away. He is so inventive and is perfect for this date.

With Ed Howard on bass and Victor Lewis on drums, this is a helluva session guys.
