Top Ten Trumpeters

This is really just a test to see if all threads have a rating system or just the polls. But go ahead and list 'em!

The smilies function was on in The Top 10, but Moné turned it off after I posted.

And thereby increased everyone's propensity for seeking out other smilies to link. Oy!

It's right here, Dennis! This isn't a poll, just a basic, run-o-the-mill, top ten thread. Like so (really off the top of my head):

Louis Armstrong
Roy Eldridge
Harry James
Fats Navarro
Dizzy Gillespie
Miles Davis
Art Farmer
Kenny Dorham
Clifford Brown
Don Cherry

I think I'd take your list and replace Don Cherry with Woody Shaw. I might also include Freddie Hubbard, but I'm less sure whom I'd remove.

I'm curious to know who chose the so-called Top 10 Living Tenors? and why we aren't able to write in votes.

Steve, as some people have been moaning and groaning about, you *can't* turn the board's smilies on. But you can find your own smilies on the Internet or wherever and add them to your messages through the IMG function. If you don't know how to do that, I suggest that you do a search here on the new board. A lot of posts here and there have dealt with the subject.

June: Lois did, and it was just a test to try out the poll function. You can generate your own poll and put in whomever you like. And there ain't even a limit on how many names you can use.

Trumpeters?

My favs:

1) Armstrong

2) Bix Beiderbecke (cheating a bit since he only played cornet, so I'll add one at the bottom).

3) Roy Eldridge

4) Bobby Hackett (half way cheating since he played cornet half the time and I reall prefer him on that instrument).

5) Dizzy Gillespie

6) Fats Navarro

7) Miles Davis

8) Cootie Williams

9) Rex Stewart (another cornet player)

10) Buck Clayton

11) Clifford Brown

12) Ruby Braff

13) Pete Candoli

Don Cherry. One of the few post-bop trumpeters that doesnt sound like Miles.

Also Dave Douglas.

Folks, before starting a new thread, you can use the search function to see if one already exists.
