There is nothing worse than logging on groggy because the coffee is still brewing and the first thing you see is a Wynton thread.

Yeah,

We could stop all ass-whippings the anti-Wynton scurbs suffer with their half-baked arguments and school-girl snivelings.

Cheers,

Rob

Actually, the only problem with locking out Wynton threads is that the proportion of posts in the Alley relative to the jazz part of the board would get so high that we could no longer justify calling this a "jazz forum."

P.S. So what do you all really think about Wynton, anyway?

Spankings merely exacerbate the problem -- I think a human sacrifice is in order.

Why do you have to lock out threads on a particular artist. If you don't dig the thread don't post.Nobody holding a gun on anyone forcing them to read or post.Don't like it leave it the fuck alone.Peace and all that

I'm with HL.

Actually, I misread the subject, and I thought shrugs was requesting a lock of Wynton's hair.

Hair or clothes?

I'm in the HL camp. There are plenty of threads I don't read. It's not that hard.

This idea is absurd. Censorship of a jazz musician on a jazz board! If you don't want to talk about Wynton, then don't click on the fucking thread. It's really that simple.

Musical discussion on this board has shrunk throughout the year, and love him or hate him, Wynton brings out opinions and debate. Suggesting that we censor all Marsalis discussion would be like the Fed restricting credit during a depression. It is the exact wrong thing to do.

Seems like the sort of thing John Ashcroft would go for. Don't like what people are saying? Ban it!

I agree with that. My show of support to this thread was not a real attempt to want to ban any thread. It was just a show of annoyance in the whole Marsalis thread phenomenon. We can, after all, just ignore the threads!

For me, this is just a curiosity more than anything. I got into the debate some months ago, and exhausted my interest in the issue. Yet, recently I peak into the thread and people are arguing the same shit. Yet, what was interesting is that Rob Damen et al are still in there, with a whole new set of Wynton haters. Maybe it is just Damen now, I don't know. But my god, one would think the subject would tire!

But I agree that banning any thread like that would be silly, and wanted to clarify that-even if the Wynton threads are what they are.

That troll element exists among both the pro- and anti-Wynton camps. I'd lay the condescension on less thickly, myself.

Perhaps a rational solution would be that multiple threads on Marsalis could be joined together into a single thread when it looked like they were just going over the same ground. I recall one memorable day about a year agon on JC when I looked at "Speak Out" & saw six active pro- or anti-Wynton Marsalis threads.

Speakout pretty much WAS nothing but Wynton threads.

This belongs in the political forum. Besides, speech codes come from the left these days.

But can anything new be brought to the table? I don't think so but then again I am not a Nostalgic Revolutionary so hopefully everyone will excuse my shortcomings.

If you don't think there's anything new to be said, then don't participate. That's it. Not all of us have been discussing jazz for years and years, so if some of us go over old ground, you can just leave it alone.

Yeah, a separate forum is the only way to go. That way if you don't want to read it or click on it, you won't have to even see it. Hey, there's already a precedent here for separating out lesser subjects than His Majesty. Give him his own forum. It's only right.
