Question "Open Mike" Question

Does anyone here know of any places where a mature, talented, non-professional drummer can "sit in" with professionals in the Los Angeles area?

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

How about the place near/in[?] Inglewood,' Billy Higgins World Stage' or something with Billy's name in it that he helped found.

Workshops & performances at all levels from what I've heard...

Hi Valerie,
I thought maybe the LA Jazz Society would have a list. www.lajazz.org

Mike's suggestion of the world stage is a good one, if they're still open...

Maybe see you next June?

I don't think The World Stage (which I'm happy to report is still open) is the right place for this guy but welcome all suggestions.

I will check the L.A. Jazz Society and have some other leads as well.

I certainly hope to see you before next June, Peter, as I hope to get up to Yoshi's in the next few months. Maybe I'll even meet our "mutual friend" from Carmel there!

My best to you and your lovely better-half.

I hope you come up sooner than later Valerie...

Cedar and Kenny B might be right up your alley.

Open mikes just aren't around the way they used to be.

A trip to the Bay Area is long overdue for me. I'll be checking your Yoshi's posts and making my plans accordingly! You know I love those bebop pianists! I actually most wanted to catch George Cables recently. He's a definite favorite.

You're right about the open mike situation although some of these new groups sometimes make an evening seem like it must be an "open mike" situation!
