Hey, Monte: Up for another wager?
I'll go public with our bet from four years ago:
Which candidate will win the popular vote?
I've got $20 on the blue.

I learned my lesson, Chris. I think it is just as likely this year as it was four years ago that the blue candidate could win the popular vote by sweeping populous urban states and still not make the cut across the geography necessary to win the Electoral vote. And this election is close. I'm not going to put any money out there, because I am not making any predictions at the moment.
However, talk to me the last week in October and maybe I'll have stopped biting my nails enough to push some chips across the table. I can stand Kerry being President, but I can't abide cutting another check to the likes of you!

Oh, man, we're all patriots here, right?

I don't see this election being close at all.

We are all patriots. I'm still not risking twenty bucks.
You know, I regret not wagering on this but it occurs to me, sadly, that I just can't afford to lose that money right now. And you never wager what you can't afford to lose.
"Can't afford to lose! Is Monte admitting that he is not better off than he was four years ago?!"
Now wait a second, Inner Voice in Question Marks. I never said that. As a matter of fact, I am much better off than I was four years ago. It is just that back then I was neither married nor a parent. I was a bachelor who was just giddy to throw his dollars on the table. Now I have been enriched with responsibilities and have to think about my expenditures. Twenty dollars is like 26.66 jars of Gerber Third Foods. And buying groceries for the DuPre kids, while a noble and necessary goal, is not in my budget! I'm not taking a chance on that.
Unless it is a sure thing (like betting against Gary on Wolfowitz) or I'm morally weak and frenzied with expectation as I shall be, probably, in the last week of October.

Hey, I was wondering yesterday what happened to his vow to visit Iraq "every quarter." I gave him that one and you your wager money, but what about the quarters that have since passed?

Now, Gary, you know that he probably sent people to represent him, because he had to strategerize and cut brush at the ranch in Crawford. It's hard work!
Now, you may have read that GWB took more vacation days during his first three years in office than Clinton did during his first seven years in office, but I'll bet you weren't considering all the time that he spent strategerizing and making sure that our children was learning. It's hard work!

I think in his case the less work he does the better.

Monte, I agree entirely with your reasoning. Babies need shoes, and we need to provide them.

Plus, I'm pretty sure Chris owes me a big dinner at Morton's for something we bet on earlier this year. Or last year. Or something.
