What internet radio are you listening to?
Nope. I don't have a favourite that I'm going to thrust upon you. Yesterday I found a station on Shoutcast that played pretty much my kind of music for over half an hour before blotting their copybook by following a 'Space-Invaders' smooth jazz record with a rap number, at which point I switched off, and forgot to make a note of the name. Now I can't find it, so...
Sorry if this thread already exists (And I'm quite sure it must) but post links if you can, please

It's like regular smooth jazz, but the backing track is provided by the same sound chips that you find in video games. You don't hear it called that so much these days. Video game music got better...

ResonanceFM was having a few problems when I tuned in. It reminded me of the early days of the pirates and BBC local radio, but how can I dislike a station that plays Zappa's 'Peaches en regalia' as a backing track, but the announcer forgets to turn his mike on, so I get to listen to it uninterrupted? And when it was over they forgot to cancel, so I also got a fair chunk of 'Don't eat the yellow snow'. When they did get their act together they played a Rodney Dangerfield track, and again forgot to cancel, so I got three tracks... I shall listen again!
I like WMOT, I would be listening right now but my media players have gone on strike. I switched off with the radio still running last night. Hope I didn't upset it...

KJZZ, especially with their new lineup.
When they are in a membership drive, I tune into dkjazz for a bit of that scandahoovian jazz taste.

I often pull up the Sirius site and play one of the jazz streams when I'm on the computer at home. Pure Jazz is the stream I usually listen to.

coltrane a love supreme documentary is archived on bbc radio 4......go to radio 4 directory ...under "L"... www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/atoz/#l
the documentary is interesting...although there isn't anything really new....but interviews include tyner and elvin...and alice....others...evan parker chimes in..
those interested in the -- is love supreme a free or traditional jazz lp. here the experts suggest that love supreme is a break with charlie parker harmonics...and is a progressive work despite today's acceptance. alice remembers critical objections upon release.

A post on the blues thread got me thinking about this thread.
So many people think about the internet's connection with music as being about downloading. I went through my obsessive downloading stage (back when emusic was too good to be true) , but now I find myself listening to ALOT of radio on the net, and digging it big time.
Having lived in an area for over 25 years that has NO all jazz or mostly jazz stations, I always felt jealous of areas that had good jazz stations, especially when I traveled and experienced them.
With the development of broadband and internet radio, I can now listen to most of the ones I discovered while travelling. And I've found ways to discover new ones.
http://www.radio-locator.com/ has a great search engine for finding jazz stations (or any other type of station - by genre) and links you to their web page AND their audio feed. TIP: when you go to the site, go to the advanced search page before you search. This way you can limit your searches to jazz (or other genre) radio stations that broadcast over the internet.
Some stations that broadcast on the internet that I have enjoyed are:
KPLU (Pacific Lutheran University Tacoma, Washington) mostly straight ahead)
WEMU (a variety of jazz and blues)
WWOZ (as Shrugs pointed out a very cool station - and one that you HAVE TO listen to when you're in N'awlins
KHKE ( Cedar Falls, IA - University of Northern Iowa ) jazz and classical, but alot of jazz
Real Audio's RealPlayer also has a decent search engine (but only for stations that broadcast on Real Audio).
I still use Netscape as a browser, and the version I use has a tab for Netscape radio, which has access to more than 175 proprietary stations that are almost commercial free (and DJ free) in all genres, including avant garde jazz(really).
Excellent broadcast quality too. They also have a cool across-genre station programmed by Tracks magazine. If you want to use Netscape Radio more than 3 hours a day you gotta pay, but you can use it for up to 3 hours every day free - and easy.
The latest version of the Netscape browser DOESN'T have the tab (strange, I thought), but users of this browser (and I assume any other, but I could be wrong - it's kind of a hobby) can still download the software at radio.netscape.com/radio/radiosell2.html .

I'll be on tomorrow night (Wednesday 2/2/05) from 17:00-20:00 est ( 5PM -8PM est).
You'll not be able to get a www signal before that time because we're not licensed to webcast what we're broadcasting before 1700, which is a BBC news feed. We only wwwcast programming originating from our own studios.
http://personalweb.smcvt.edu/wwpv/home.htm
I'm told we're going to be beefing up the technical aspect of things fairly soon and get the quality increased significantly.
If anybody's able to catch any of the show, I'd enjoy knowing where you are located and how it comes through. My own computer receives webcasts with uneven success, so it would be helpful for me to know how it goes on your end with the present technical setup they are webcasting with.
I've been doing shows at the station and helping to build our library for many years, and I'm very proud of the steady stream of new releases we're able to air. We get music from a pretty terrific collection of labels and independent promotion people - from the States as well as Italy, France, Switzerland, England and Canada.
I'd be really gassed to have anybody be able to catch the show.
Thanks,
db

Tonight (8pm-12mid./MST=UTC -7 hours) I'll be listening to my buddy's weekly jazz show, Straight Ahead, on KSUT-FM.
Steve(thelil)-
Your mention of KPLU reminded me of another fine, smaller station near Portland, KMHD.
I've mentioned it before, but my overall favorite online jazz station remains KSCM in San Mateo, California. They're part of a very small, dying breed of 24-hour commercial-free jazz stations in America.
