Stanley did join. Here will be an opportunity for dialogue... I can't speak for him to know how often he will be post, but I am honored, as I am to have all of you part of the JC community.

I met Mr. Crouch briefly at the Village Vanguard in September '99. He was pretty nice and gave me his phone number. Which I promptly lost, unfortunately...

People looking for a board solely with members sharing their own opinions should go elsewhere, Crouch or not.

Hey, good to hear. Welcome, Mr. Crouch.

Whatever else has since passed, Mr. Crouch has long had my appreciation for 1) a series of amazing concerts he produced at the Tin Palace in the late 70s and 2) his generally superb pieces in the Village Voice from around the same time.

This is no joke?

I still haven't gotten over Stanley's "the majesty of my language" quote from a Post interview a few years back.

I just hope it will remain possible to ban anybody who uses the term "gutbucket."

The expression kind of makes me queasy--I get this vision of intestines, blood and excrement in a barrel. I have a similar reaction to "pick your brain"--think of the nasty fingernails!

"Gutbucket blues" seems like an odd sort of compliment to me.

I've met Stanley many times at jazz clubs--I don't know if he remembers me, but I always found him fun to talk to. And, he's a good writer. What will we do with all the "I hate Wynton threads"? He and Wynton are buds!

The ignore function does what it says on the tin. As far as I can tell, the Buddy function adds a plus next to the buddy's name in the "who's online" box.

From the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), which appear at the top of every page:
Quote:
What are the buddy and ignore lists?

The buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "My vB Home", you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online, and be able to send them a private message. Adding people to your buddy list also allow you to send private messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by clicking this button in a member's posts.

Ignore lists are used for those people who's messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread.

mone, trash the Ken Burns' Jazz thread!

In the future, it would be nice to have a little warning that guests are coming so we're not left with our pants down.

Someone empty those ashtrays and hide the hookah!

Hmmm... I may have to "empty the litter box" myself.

However, I did once say that I made Stanley look like Billy Dee Williams.

Whatever, everyone would be dissing him if he wasn't here, so I'll remain honest and keep doing it.

He's as irrelevent of a writer as he was a drummer, and as irrelevent as Wynton is an artist. And he's racist.

I for one, won't be reading his posts unless he wants to come talk about poker or the NBA.
