Mos Def - Any Fans Here?
Just curious as I'm so impressed with this guy. His fairly recent award-winning performance on that made-for-tv-movie had my mouth hanging open throughout! I've also seen him doing his rap/poetry, etc. on tv and think he's fabulous. I just met him in a restaurant yesterday and had a really nice exchange with him for about 5 minutes or so. He was very sweet, gracious and humble (and handsome!). Said he had a couple of movies coming out at the end of the year which I'll definitely look out for. He also might be doing the Public Theatre in NYC in the future. I think he appeared at the House of Blues here in L.A. last night but I found out about it too late to attend.

He was pretty good in TopDog/Underdog, which is an excellent play.

Black Star, baby!
I've seen him on the show he hosts on HBO - the def poet jam thing. It's not by any means his fault, but most of the poetry on that show sounds awful to my poetry-ignorant ears.

I have been a fan since he appeared on the short lived "Cosby Mysteries" TV show. I love his first solo recording and I think he is a very talented actor - having seen him in "Brown Sugar", "The Italian Job", "Monster's Ball" and probably some other things I am not remembering right now. He was also the narrator for the radio documentary "The Making of A Love Supreme", which was very entertaining. A talented young man, who I will keep my eyes and ears on.

Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star is a great album, as is his solo "Black on Both Sides." He has a new one out, but so far I have only read a lukewarm review.

Wow, that's exciting, I've also heard that Tim from "the Office" will be playing Arthur Dent.
Anyway, I think Mos Def is a talented actor who will probably do great things. He is already a great rapper(just listen to Black on Both Sides) with a wide knowledge of music. Unfortunately some of his experiments have been a little weak.

I think the new one is great. Excellent beats, nice variety, and I like most of what Mos has to say. Another classic afaic.

I really like him too, and I really wanted to like the new record (especially the Black Jack Johnson stuff). I think it's pretty lame, though. It lacks focus, the beats seem pedestrian, the BJJ stuff sounds like circa 1988 generic Rick Rubin fare, ugh. And when you take 5 years to produce a record, don't have a track ramble for a minute while you talk to the engineer ("Molto, molto, molto - I need more bass, I need more vocal - molto, molto still").

I feel the good outweighs the bad on this album, just like his first album. I hated that track with Busta Rhymes on the first one. Also in the first album, I disagreed with a lot he said on the "Rock And Roll" track and some of what he said in the track "Mr. Ni**a."
I could do without the sound check (molto?) stuff too, and the "fuck you, pay me" track is garbage...
However, the track with the hook "In the sunshine" is soooooo tight, and the Jay-Z mimic track had me LMAO...
