You can close your mouth now

I was out at lunch today and there was a girl, probably 20ish, who was eating a salad at the table next to me. She was sitting by herself, chewing away, with her mouth wide open. Food was falling out. It was like watching a wheat thrasher.

This is not the first time I've seen something like this.

It happens a lot. Often, I see a teenaged kid with her/his parent, chewing the same way, mouth wide open. Now, when I was a kid, my mother or father would have promptly corrected such a faux paux. It would not be allowed to continue. But, alas, these parents apparently think it's just fine.

What's the deal? Come on, parents! Fix your kids!

These appear to be happy, well adjusted kids. They're well dressed and groomed. But they chew food like my dog. It's three shades of wrong. Makes me sad.

it's great how Larry can transform his voyeurism into parenting advice.

It's an impressive transformation, but lest you become envious of my powers, let it be known that my attempts to turn water into wine are failing miserably.

Yeah, Larry. Where are you eating that you are seeing this?

PS: Did she have any other worthwhile attributes?

well i am going to interject my feelings here. i was raised in an environment of kids like the women in the shoe, fairy tale.

my parents came from very strict backgrounds. jewish and italian.

The jewish children are allowed to talk endlessly, which quite frankly is annoying. Italian children have the respect of their elders to shut the F*&K up.

whatever u do at home don't let me see u doing it in public or u get a backhand at home. my father watched all of us kids grow-up with the firm belief of either the strap or a good smack up the side of the head.

i got the firm hand and being a girl, i got into trouble. never did i embarress my mother and father in public of any situation. at home it was a zoo, and we all either talked to ourselves because no one listened or we got smacked for not shutting up.

i have my own children who are polite to the point of nausea. i have my mother and grandmother to thank for the wisdom that they have bestowed on me

i give credit to my father to point out such acts as mentioned above.

he always mentioned the fact of not letting people know about your dirty laundry in public and if you have to do something it better be in the basement or some part under his roof.

we never made fools out ourselves.

if we acted out in public to any kind of wrong doing he would wait until we all got home. believe me it was a long wait and dad was a huge man. he had huge hands and he never got the blisters, he gave them.

my father ruled the family and it never got out of hand that a shirt was pulled to give your neck collar burn.

that was when we were small and in high school.

all of my brothers and sisters went to private schools.

for whatever reason my father allowed me to go to public school and i truly believe that is where all of my problems started. i was a hellion and had a note sent home with me. once home i was an angle. if you can believe that. i don't believe it but my elders tell its so??????????

i begged my father for private school but..............nnnnnnoooooooooo!!!!!!!

if i was sick i had to bring a note to school, telling why i wasn't in school.

four times in high school our principal accused me of faking my mothers handwriting and i was kicked off the bus twice. i hated the teachers and likewise. they didn't seem to know kids or how to teach.

a lot of parents complained that the teachers were paid too much and not enough was taught to the kids. so, it stands that i wasn't the only one who had a death wish.

dad was the ruler of his kingdom until he died at 80. until his dying day he was proud of what he produced in his gene pool and that we all turned out ok.

being a parent is very hard. thats if you care at all.

most parents don't and the problems start right there

That just cannot be right ... and I have as low opinion of the next person as the next person.

I've changed my mind; frankenmeister7's post is the post of the year. I'd like to see a movie made out of it.
