Now that it's over...

Can we go back to talking about something that really matters?

Nothing like a little PB to soothe your downtrodden spirits

You're OK in my book, you heroin-snorting, cuba-loving, Mexican commie!

I heard Ami Yoshida's working on some PB-interactivity for her upcoming performance....

I've been using Arrowhead Mills organic something something peanut butter. It has less or no sugar and relatively few carbs. This is the kind of pb where the oil floats to the top and you have to mix it real well, otherwise when you get to the bottom of the jar, it's all hard.

This summer, I discovered another advantage of "natural" PB, the ones with the floating oil, due to the kind largesse of the Cantiello's. Their shipment of six varieties of PB (with other accoutrements) included, among the delish flavored varieties, a jar each of regular creamy and regular crunchy. The unflavored PB was pretty good but I couldn't resist taking advantage of its relatively loose viscosity, abetted by the oil, to mix in some honey. Now, as readers of the original thread will remember, one of my fave late evening snacks, to the everlasting horror and disgust of my wife, is pouring some honey into a quarter-full PB jar and, generally utilizing a butter knife, scooping out golden dollops for savory delectation. Well, with the softer, more pliable "natural" PB, you can mix the honey right in, making it visually indistinguishable from the PB. Thusly, instead of encountering the odd, unhoneyed corner in the bottom of the jar, one can ensure, by dint of thorough mixing, a homogenous, ambrosial oneness of PB & Honey.

I wasn't around for the original PB thread, so this is like a new lease on life for me to have a fresh beginning.

I f**king love peanut butter. My favorite variety is the Smucker's Natural kind, the kind you guys are describing, where the oil separates. Now, I didn't used to refrigerate it. I used to just re-mix it every time. But as I grow older, I get lazier and no longer have the patience for that. I stick it in the fridge and it stays mixed.

My favorite snack involves dipping a chocolate bar (preferably something gourmet and Swiss) into a jar of creamy PB. I grew up loving Skippy, but I should really start getting the better PB that separates.

In fact, as I mentioned somewhere in the poltical section, last night I read Baker's "Checkpoint" while watching the returns, though that book is atypical of his output (and not very good).

Henry--Peanut Paste? Bad marketing! Does the word "paste" connote more pleasant associations for Aussies (or Brits) than it does for Yanks? Then again, it does conjure up warm memories of eating that white stuff we used to use on construction paper in grade school....

You are so, so very wrong.

The original thread, "Peanut Butter Dammit", is accessible in the Archives. Peruse at your own peril.

Not all of us Aussies call it "paste". I have always called it butter and so has Kraft.

Will do.

But I'd wager anything and I mean anything that I can eat more PB&J (on white bread) than anyone here.

I'm talking scores, baby.

Will not be out-pigged on this,

Ok, maybe not scores. That's like 40+ sandwiches.

But I can woof down 10 without barely stopping to breathe.

Would then need to wear a diaper for a few days,

I'm a bit of a sucker for PB myself and think this thread was very timely, important and welcome.

PB and jelly (jam) isn't so popular here. I've never tried it either so I can't really comment one way or the other.

PB on toast is yummy.

I don't think Brits call it paste either.

Grownups used to say that stuff would make you really sick and make your stomach stick together. I'd just like to let any grade schoolers reading this right now: that was utter bullshit

You'd have abolutely no problem winning that wager with me. The last time a piece of white bread went past my lips was probably sometime in the late 50's.

Haven't had it in a while, but our kids grew up on Adams Natural Peanut Butter, but (naturally) wanted what the other kids had ... Jif and Skippy, mostly. We didn't give in. It's fun sometimes to grind our own in the health food section of our supermarket, depending upon how fresh the peanuts are, of course.

This new Adams Honey Roasted Peanut Butter has me intrigued.

This damned thread made me jones so much for PB & Honey that I went to the kitchen and put several big gobs of PB in a dish. Then, the damned honey had crystallized, so I had to run hot water over the container, finally putting the sucker in the microwave.

Yum!

Eh, knowing your type, you're probably so skimpy with the jam that you don't have to twirl the sandwich while eating it to prevent spillage!

You probably get more than 3 servings frlom* a jar of Smucker's!

Piker!

*See, I wasn't kidding.
