World Champions - Boston Red Sox

just now staring to sink in

I have no job so I had kno one to gloat about this with

have no father or mother or brother or sister close enough to share this victory with

the Red Sox don't pay me

but sometimes these days i just smile when I think about what happened. 3-0 down to the Skankees - come back the way they did - despite the fact that *I* turned in when it was 4-3 going to the top of the 9th in game 4. I thought it was over. I tought it was over when I woke up to my wonderful wife telling me that the big man, the great one, David Ortiz, hit a home run in the 12th to win the game.

I figured it was lost - never saw *the stolen base* and the rip up the middle by one of my guys, the *great* Bill Mueller. I should have known it, he had done it before. They were less scared than I was.

At that point, I still thought it was lost - and the next game was as difficult as watching that awful game 7 from last year - but at least this time it was in Fenway - and the boys had last hacks - and then the great one was fouling off pitches in the 14th, there were many of us who knew they had seen it before - he is Shrek, he is a wierd looking dude, but he is The MOOSE, he is the most feared hitter in the game outside of an old dude who plays in San Fransisco. He is now an icon no matter what else happens. He is Senor Octobre - the man who changed everything - and some of us knew it as ealry as May of 2003.

I knew it - George knew it a bit later - a bit too late.

and when the *great* Mark Bellhorn hit that home run in game 6 - and followed it up with TWO bombs off TWO different foul pouls in the next TWO games, maybe a few of the dopes finally undrestood that the uneasy guy (who happens to turn the double play better than anyone in the game - anyone else finally notice that he does this and doesn't only just lead the wordl in strikeouts) is a fantastic baseball player. That a "moneyball" player can do some of the things that he did during the regular season in the playoffs when it really matters?

did anyone notice?

Mark Bellhorn will still face competition for his starting job.

some dopes think the Sox will sign Jeff Kent to play second base

I heard this last year before the trading deadline.

Well - the Sox have one of the best 3 or 4 secondbaseman on their roster - and thank the good lord that Terry and Theo know it

Still seems like a dream. But I don't know of any championship team in any major sport that has had so much to contend with to try and keep the key elements of the team together the following season. This is Theo's time to wield a big bat and glove; how well he does this offseason will go a long way toward determining the Sox's chances of repeating.

That's why I say that everyone in New England should be buying lots of licensed merchandise so Henry's bank account can handle all the new deals.

Meanwhile, everyone's waiting on Pedro's response to the initial offer.

I'm happy for you, Steve. And knowing that I played a large part in the success of your team, via a complex assortment of hexes, jinxes and rituals, gives me great pleasure. I'm really looking forward to next season, when my Tigers will win the AL Central.

- pause for hysterical laughter -

What, a season-long luncheon wasn't enough? We gotta sit through dessert, too?

Enjoy, Steve (and Co.).
