Jazz Club/bar manager
Yoshi's at Jack London Square, in Oakland CA, is seeking resumes for a Jazz Club Manager and Assistant Club manager.
Yoshi's presents jazz seven nights a week, has a full Japanese restaurant, full bar, 300 seat night club, lounge and box office.
Candidates should have bar management experience, including ordering and keeping pour cost low, supervisory skills, computer knowledge, and much more.
Duties will include supervising ****tail wait staff, box office staff and bartenders, scheduling staff, all aspects of liquor ordering and inventory, bar and club operations, and a willingness to jump in where needed.
This job has NOTHING to do with booking jazz, but candidate will have much contact with musicians.
Yoshi's is seeking a forward thinking individual who can learn our system and help take Yoshi's service to the next level.
NO PHONE CALLS!!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
BOTH JOBS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN.
APPLY NOW, APPLY TWICE, BUT APPLY.
Only email resumes to Peter@yoshis.com.

I can't wait to get to this club. It's on my jazz to do list.
Does drinking count towards restaurant management experience? Is JC an approved web site during working hours?
I'm jealous Peter. Not qualified, just jealous.

It is a good job, a difficult job, lots of late nights, weekend work, but a good job too.... you don't really get to hear the music like you would think...

wow, is it me, or is the above slightly hostile?
It's not hard work like digging ditches or physical labor, but supervising 40 employees, serving 300+ per night (who all get seated at the same time, keeping losses down, watching pour costs, AND not getting home until 1 or 2 every morning is hard.

I'm sorry Peter, I was kidding. This was a SNL skit a couple of weeks ago about GWB and the first debate.

Pete, lol, I was just keeping your post in the visible spot on the JC main menu, since I had added some stuff to the Jazz Jams area which was bumping it.

Correct, the restaurant closes at 9:30 Sun - Thu and 10 on Fri and Sat, but the Sushi bar is open until 10:30 or 11 nightly.
But in the club the kitchen stays open to accomodate listeners....

Glad to hear Yoshi's is now on the Square, cool location, nice club; last I was in the area, it was still in Berkeley. Saw alot of great music, Joshua Redman, Stanley Turrentine, Flora & Airto, etc.....
If you get any great resume's, and they wouldn't mind relocating, there's a jazz club or two here in Atlanta in dire need of some proper management! I've seen more potential "gold mines" open, then close, simply due to clueless management. I'm really surprised, in town like the Atl, we can't seem to get a jazz club that hits on all cylinders......

The old location was right on the Oakland/Berkeley border, but was in Oakland.
