Uk Music Hall of Fame
Over the last few weeks in the UK there has been a series of programmes asking the public to vote on who should be in the Uk's first Hall of Fame
This week it was the 50s
I wondered who you thought should win?
PS Elvis is an automatic entry
If you click on the link you can see the other decades in contention too
Curious..

Dibble - If it's a UK [Jazz] "Hall of Fame"...?

Ronnie and Tubby Hayes...esp. Tubbs...plus Phil Seaman
If it's US & R&B..."The Fat Man"...Mr. Domino.

What was the name of that Scottish skiffle guy who inspired all the 60s rockers? He should definitely be in it.

That would be Alexis Korner, GG, but he was "born of mixed Turkish/Greek/Austrian descent and spent the first decade of his life in France, Switzerland, and North Africa."
And with him, Mayall, Graham Bond, et al.

Pete - Very good question ! Maybe they think Chuck Berry was born in Dartford ...and owes all he knows to "Keef" and Mick!
Too much monkey business...

UK Hall of Fame
Gotta be Cliff Richard - you guys dont realise how popular Cliff was in the UK and the antipodes ....mate he was BIG! In fact he's had hits in the UK charts in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's 90's and I believe this century as well

I think the nature of the show was that the Uk should vote for their candidates for the hall of fame - irrespective of nationality
- its just who we as a nation consider worthy of the honour
(we when I say as a nation - I mean all those who watch Channel 4!)

Henry...INDEED! I'd Go For JOE in the late 50s/60s...and although he now gets a mass of written praise/lip service (a bit too late ? - 40 years earlier might of helped him in every sense)...I'm not sure how many people, even in the UK, really listen to him.
His re-issues (REDIAL) did not sell well - too "difficult" (as he could be personally) for those seeking a "fashion statement". However, "Free Form" and "Abstract" are up there with the very best from any country and feature a remarkable band pushing at the edge.
Best RC.
